Heron Creek Forest Preserve — Attraction in Illinois

Great park for walking,with awesome views, kids and pets friendly. The only problem we got ticks. When we were sitting on the bench by the kids play area i saw a tick on my leg. We decided to check the dog and found 30-40 of them all over her. We're talking 8lbs small hypoallergenic puppy. When we got home I found 4 more on our clothes and 2 in my girlfriend's hair. We barely walked on the grass since all the alleys are covered by stones. The grass looked like it was just cut a couple of days before that so it was very well scaped. When we found this preserve 5 years ago, I thought I was in heaven. It was very green and clean. And looked like real "forest". But last year I notices that the forest becomes less and less "foresty". And, today I was simply shocked to see that many healthy normal trees were cut and even the ground was burned, so, most likely, nothing will grow there. Great park/reserve. It has at least 3 parking areas at its main entrance. It has bathroom areas, trash bins, the playground which is down the road once you go through the main entrance is nice.
