Beautiful northeast Indiana lake, north of Kendallville. It's so hard to find Indiana lakes that aren't "muddy", due to the amount of clay throughout most of the soils.
Big Long Lake, however, is an exception. The lake bottom appears to be more sandy (though weedy) while the lake water itself is crystal clear most of the time, as it is a spring-fed lake - one of Indiana's cleanest. Kayaking around the lake on a weekday, I found myself able to follow some of the fish just by looking into the water. Swimming was a delight.
Weekends, the lake turns into a madhouse of speedboats, fast pontoons, souped-up john boats, tubers, skiers, and other gas-powered toys, resulting in lots of propeller-chopped weeds washing ashore, much of it replanting the pulled up roots.
