I have to say, I’m extremely disappointed with my most recent experience with Newfields, specifically the Garden and management of said area.
My fiancé and I got engaged during the iconic newfields Christmas light show, and we are currently in the process of planning our wedding at the lily house. Today, we went to get a few engagement photos. This was not a big photo shoot with outfit changes and a professional photographer, rather a friend with a camera and some quick snapshots to put on to an invitation card. We were denied at the entry, stating they required a “photo pass” 48 hours prior to the date. Now, I understand rules are rules and I don’t expect any exceptions. What angered us was the rude demeanor of the employee working the garden entry desk, who after showing us there was plenty of availability for photo passes on this day, stated it wasn’t going to happen in a very condescending manner, AFTER telling our friend who was taking the photos that it was fine and we would be allowed in. Before we could even contest this statement, she stated her manager would be coming out to explain the situation. The manager explained almost verbatim what was already stated, but once again, was extremely condescending and rude. We did not become argumentative or challenge their statements, only asking of photos are allowed at all in the garden. This seemed to upset the manager even more so, and her tone grew even more disrespectful, as if my fiancé and I were toddlers and she was lecturing us.
My fiancé was absolutely heartbroken, as she has been in love with this venue since the beginning of our engagement. This is has been the hardest part. As we are now rethinking our wedding plans due to...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I highly recommend visiting the Lilly house during their holiday festivities. I have included photos from the Halloween events but the house is also used for Christmas activities. It’s clever, interesting, and well-worth the money.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Lilly House and Gardens at Newfields, and it was truly an enchanting experience. The meticulously maintained gardens were a breathtaking sight, with an array of vibrant flowers and lush greenery that created a serene and picturesque atmosphere. Walking through the garden pathways felt like stepping into a tranquil oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Lilly House itself is a stunning historic gem, exuding elegance and charm. The carefully preserved interiors provide a glimpse into the past, showcasing the rich history and cultural heritage of the region. The knowledgeable staff added to the experience, offering insightful information about the house and its former residents, creating a deeper connection to the space.

Read moreThis wasn't as exciting for me as Newfields, but art so I can't complain. There are several rooms with photographs of the Newfields grounds. There are several photographs by the same photographers. There are drawings by different age groups. And there are always people watching you on staff. My son was using his camera outside and it used an automatic setting when we came inside, so it used its flash. Someone came rushing over to let everyone know he can't do that. Absolutely accidental, but we had him put it away for the remainder of our time in the house. You'll need to walk up and down stairs. There is elevator access. If your children are the type to walk through the museum without knocking into things and the type to appreciate walking and looking at art, this might work out for them. My kids are 9 and 10 and they did OK, but my 9 year old didn't last long and was happy to escape to the outdoors upon exiting. She does much better in the main building where there is more room and places for children where they are allowed to...
