We are so fortunate to have this facility in our area. I cannot say enough about this place. The walking/bike trail goes all the way around the lake and up into Iowa City. The trail is all paved and wide enough to accommodate walkers alongside bikers. There are benches along the trail for those who need a break. I have taken several individuals with mobility challenges to this area for walking exercise. We sometimes need to take a travel chair along so, we can stop when needed. We enjoy this area because it is so easy to stop and rest almost anywhere along the route. This is a great place for wildlife. I have had so much fun bird watching in this area. I have seen many furry creatures as well. There are accommodations for both boating and fishing. Boat rentals are available during the summer months. The lake is easily accessed from either end. There is plenty of parking at no charge. Tables are available for outside dining. There is also a building that can be reserved for large gatherings or events which includes a lovely patio overlooking the lake. The building does include public restrooms. The building is handicapped accessible. There are no overnight camping facilities. The area is really only suited to...
Read moreI love this "park", the old sand pits. The paved trail around the pond is nice and wide- enough for many people to walk, skate, bike or jog around. My only complaint is that both website and trail need better markers/signs/information posted for easy access and new users: 1.Where is the starting point and start of the measured distance markers (Start, 1 mile, 2 miles, etc.) for those of us who use it to walk as a therapy &/or like to measure our progress? Alerting us to proper direction of travel when bikes and walkers share the path so everyone is on the same page, so to speak. Is the "main entrance" on the North side where the big sign with the name is? Or, is it on the South end where the website says the information board is? Where do the trails lead that branch off and away from this park?
Thanks for making a nice walking path and nature area where motors are not heard over here on the often forgotten South and East...
Read moreThis space is ideal for bike rides, walks, rolls, or jogs. The trails are paved and easily accessible for wheel chairs or strollers. They wind around a lake and are at times in the woods or in a prairie. If it is summer, you can canoe, kayak, use a stand up paddle board, or a peddle boat. If you don't have one, the H2O rental place will rent one for you and be ready to sell you a snack to finish out your day... Or start it.
Deep winter is when the lake transforms. When the lake freezes over it is a great place to go ice skating or just walk around in awe on the ice.
Nature truely is all around you when you go to Terry Trueblood. No matter the season this is a wonderful place to visit. I often end up here when I'm on a bike ride. It is very close to town, but...
