On our way home from vacation we decided to stop at Briggs Woods as a resting place on our route. They offered electricity and when I called to inquire on lengths of their back-in spots, I was told that the spots would accommodate the largest of RVs. Perfect!
I reserved our spot online and when we arrived and found our spot, we quickly learned that the park was not as accommodating as we were led on. The road through the sites is very narrow with trees on both sides of the road. This does not allow a lot of room to swing when you have a truck and trailer. Thankfully, we have a gooseneck where you have more room to play with then a bumper pull. Following some fancy fanagaling we were finally parked in our spot after 10 hours of driving.
We unpacked and plugged into the breaker box to run our electricity. Nothing. Tried several different chargers, phones, batteries, nothing. After finding the camp host she said the park ranger was dealing with a dispute at another park a good distance away and there would be no chance of them making it over to make the repair. She then offered us the spot across the road as it was a cancelation for the night. With trees so close in every direction there is no way that anybody with a decent sized rig could shimmy their way in there comfortably.
There were no other spots available and no walkins for our in laws traveling with us so they stayed at a truck stop down the road. Needing power for our own rig we packed up our belongings (again) and stayed at the truck stop piggybacking off their generator. Sad that an abandoned truck stop is the choice over a campground.
After speaking to the manager we will not be getting a refund for our reservation as it was booked online. We were offered a coupon (for less then what our reservation was mind you) to stay at another park. I can confidently say we will not be making a 4 hour drive for a park that we probably won't fit into anyways. As a family we have decided to ensure our route will not end our day in the Webster City...
Read moreThis modest, unassuming park has some hidden beauty. There's a small lake great for boating and fishing. This lake empties down some waterfalls into the Boone river and there are some short paths that you can take there. Most recently, there has been the addition of bike racks that you allow you to rent with the use of the app and gain access to the Boone recreational trail. Not to mention, there's camping, a golf course, and access to the Boone with kayak and canoe rentals. I definitely recommend taking some time to check out this...
Read moreFirst time going here. Easy to find. Took the kids for a hike and picnic. The falls are really cool. There are a few of them and the trail gets you to all of them. There are some pretty steep areas along the trail. We had to help the younger kids get through. They have lots of covered picnic table areas to have food. There are bathrooms. You can camp here in tents and campers. They also have cabins you can rent. There is a very nice gold course...
