My wife and I were looking for a quiet place to get away for a few days before spending the 4th with family. We found this park online and rented a small cabin. We stayed three nights. We came in after dark and had a little trouble finding our cabin. That's on us, not the facility. The queen futon has a plastic mattress, so we put a blanket down before putting on our sheets.
The website said restrooms were close to the cabins and they are. What they don't say is that these are primitive toilets and there are no sinks and no hand sanitizer. This isn't a complaint. Just info for others. Bring a bowl or something to wash your hands in. The modern toilets are only in the shower house. There are sinks there. The distance from our cabin was a little inconvenient, but there's a trail to get to it.
We hiked all the trails in the park. They are well maintained. A few trails do not have markers at the start, but they're simple enough to follow. I would recommend the waterfall loop. The paved Boone River Trail also runs through the park and provides an easier adventure for those who don't want to step over tree roots and the like.
If you want to kayak on the lake, call one of the hosts. Their numbers are in the folder in the cabins. The hosts have a Gator to haul kayaks to the boat ramp by the swimming area. The fees - $10 for 2 hours in 2025 - are reasonable.
The swimming area is small, but adequate. It is a lake, so you have to deal with little bits of seaweed floating around. This lake was fast nicer than many...
Read moreI wanted to give it 5 stars, but it's location is unfortunately too close to a very heavily traveled highway/bridge which makes it noisier that I like when I'm sitting by the campfire. If you don't mind road noise this is an excellent campground. We are hook and hopers and there were several sites available when we arrived. And they are nicely spaced and shaded. The pads are rock, but not the annoying crushed limestone that comes into your camper with you. We took advantage of the nice trails and made it to the waterfalls which I'm sure are more picturesque when there isn't drought conditions. We saw a couple playgrounds and several pit toilet houses about the park. I can't speak to the shower house as we didn't use it. A bit pricier than we're used to but the FCFS sites are full hookups which we usually don't utilize so pricing may be normal. We're very new to camper camping so take that into consideration when reading my opinion....
Read moreGood campground with clean facilities. We arrived on Saturday and the place was packed with mostly locals. There are about 70 sites, some electric only and other with full hook-ups. The showers facilities are clean, worn a bit and well used on the weekends. We received a tornado warning on our phones about 11:30 for Webster. Not knowing the area it took us a few minutes to pin point that it was the next county west, about 12 - 15 miles away.. Don't know if there is a storm shelter on site and none is marked that I could fine. Camp host did not inform the campers as to what to do. Verizon service is two bars at best and the data rates are very slow. OK spot for a night of two as its...
