Keep your stuff near you , local guys come from the wood on the back and steal . They know for small road on back, and just sit there looking for you to go to water and come and steal. I highly recommend visiting Navio while in Vieques. However, be prepared as it is off the main roads and has no running water or cantinas. You'll need to pack drinks and snacks as well as be aware that the waves are somewhat larger here than at Media Luna and Sun Bay beaches. Best beach for body surfing on Vieques. The rough road access (large potholes mean vehicles with good ground clearance are highly suggested) means it's usually almost private.
