My family and I have enjoyed this park for a few years. During the summer it is a nice area for me to take my children to ride bikes to play in the park and it's also a good place for me to do my morning jog. Unfortunately though it is a horrible place to do any of these things when Southside school is in session. It then becomes an unsafe place to walk or run or enjoy any time spent for that matter. In the morning between 8:30 & 9:30 and again in the afternoon between 3:30 & 4:30 Some of ( most of ) The parents dropping off or picking up students are completely out of control. They drive through the park going the wrong way, ( since it is a one-way road) the speed limit is 10 mph, most of the parents or possibly older siblings dropping off or picking up are speeding impatiently through the park doing 35- 45! Passing cars who are doing the speed limit. while other children are walking or riding bikes through the park to get to the school. As well as the residents that go there to do their morning jog or walk.
It is just absolutely insane that these parents as well as the children have absolutely no respect or regard for the convenience being offered to Southside students and parents to be able to use Drew Park as a place to SAFELY drop off and pick up their children. They also allow the children to be disrespectful as well. Kids are running or riding their bike's out in front of vehicles intentionally swerving in front of vehicles and laughing about! It is absolutely insane to me that all of this is going on Every day. Why hasn't the security and or police done anything about this? Maybe they don't see what's going on. Although it truly is a shame though that this community of parents dropping off and picking up their children have to be told how to respect and treat their own community in a situation like this! Something really needs to be done before...
Read moreI have spent a fair amount of time at this park throughout the course of my life and does hold a special place in my heart. This park was where I pitched two of my best games in my Little League career. I was 15 and had just started my sophmore year at Wolfson as well as making Varsity. Anyway, we were the B team from MSA(Mandarin Sports Association) and had smoked every team at every association in town regardless of letter grade and we were bid to face the A team from Sans Souci next. Although our team was a mixture of 14 and 15 year olds and they didn't have a single 14 year old on their team and a couple of them were 16, we were convinced we couldn't be beaten. I pitched a 2 hitter and had 11 strikeouts in that game and we shut them out 4-0. The following weekend we played for the city title and lost 4-3 but I couldn't start that game because little league rules at that time wouldn't let a ptcher start two games in a row. I relieved our starter and they had already scored the 4 runs but they didn't get another hit and we came back with 3 and ran outta time. #2 in the city is pretty good for a B team if...
Read moreGreat place to go early in the morning for running, walking or jogging. Very pieceful and a safe area to exercise with younger children. I personally like to go running around 6:20am. The sky is pretty and the sun is just barely out. It's an amazing experience to take a nice run before work. I promise you'll feel great the entire day during your shift. Not to mention, Everytime you circle the fields, that's half of a mile so every 2 laps is equivalent to one mile. Therefore you can accurately determine how much or how far...
