Time of Visit: Lunch…a lot Order: 4 Pastor tacos, 2 Ground Beef tacos, and a Tres Leches Bill: $17 Pros: Amazing tacos, best Tres Leches ever, quick take out service Cons: The line to order can get long around lunch (this could also be a Pro)
Thoughts: I can't count the number of times I've eaten here so I finally decided to write a review. There are really just two things you need to know about Mr. Taco. First; they have they best street style tacos in Jacksonville. Second, they have the best Tres Leches I have ever eaten. If you like either of these things go visit them!
Now for some details, when I say street tacos what I mean is a simple taco with meat, a little lettuce, cream cheese, sour cream, and tomatoes. You aren't getting some crazy sauce, or mango chutney, or any other topping that you would typically see on an "upscale" taco; and its amazing. The meat is the key to this being such a great taco, the pastor and ground beef are especially tasty and they seem to hit the seasoning on both of them perfectly. While the tacos are just a bit on the small side you can get 3 tacos for just under $6 and that is more than enough to fill you up. They also have a small salsa bar that you can dump all over the top of your tacos (or put in to-go cups if you don't want to get messy).
The Tres Leches here is also the best Tres Leches I have ever eaten. It might actually be perfect; the cake is not mushy and soaked with excessive amounts of milk like most other Tres Leches I've eaten, its also not dry like those that are not soaked in milk. The balance of sweetness is just right as well, not too sweet but still tastes like a desert.
I really can't recommend this place enough for anyone who wants a few good delicious tacos, and maybe some Tres Leches to...
Read moreIf I could leave negative stars for this restaurant I would. My friends and I have eaten here plenty of times and had wonderful food and good service. But after today's treatment and unacceptable customer service we will NEVER go back there again. Not only was the restaurant manager argumentative but rude. We made an online order through Bite Squad. I placed the order at 11:39. We did have a large order, it was for 7 people. Confirmed through Bite Squad that Mr. Taco confirmed and received our order at 11:53. I called Mr. Taco at 12:53 and they hadn't even started making our food yet. I was then told they had a lot of tickets and our order was large. I said so that means you put everyone a head of us even though we order an our ago, the only response I received was that I obviously didn't know how a kitchen worked...however after trying to get a straight answer for more than 5 minutes I said so has our order been started (it's after 1pm at this point) and the lady said no, I told you have a lot of tickets and yours is a big order. They were not willing to compensate us for our trouble not willing to admit that they pushed us aside to wait on smaller orders. The customer service we received today was UNACCEPTABLE and we will never eat...
Read moreDON'T get me wrong, the one star is simply because the food was great no doubt about it. The service on the other hand...smh...is absolutely terrible. The women are unfriendly and not attentive at all, but the worst part is after me and my husband ate there I accidentally left my bag on the chair, as soon as I realized it I called the restaurant and told her if she could please do to the table I was sitting at so she could put it behind the register for me. That way another costumer would not take it. She said she would. (This all happened within 10-15 minutes) so I got there as soon as I could and when I asked for my bag they had taken $800 dollars from my purse!!! They left $20 in there and made up a story about how a costumer gave them the bag and that they had taken the money not them....even though I had just spoken with the waitress over the phone to prevent this. They said they couldn't remember who the person was at all even though this happened in a span of 10 minutes. It was just really sketchy, I almost broke down crying to think they had the nerve to steal all that hard work money I had earned. I also couldn't believe my own fellow Mexican people would steal from me. It really...
