This park has great families who come to play. The playground is about 5 years old, and offers fun and exercise to kids ages about 5++. The park has soccer fields to play games, sprawling oaks to climb and enjoy, and a pond to watch ducks or float boats in. Be careful, bc YES, gators are often spotted in the water. There are sidewalks throughout the grounds to walk, skate, or ride as well. The park has a small splashpad, which often seems to be only partially working. It is tiny but good for cooling off on hot days, Bring extra socks or water shoes as the splashpad can get VERY slick.
There is a (parent or 'Big Kid'propelled) 'merry go round', two (2) (also usually parent propelled) spinning cups, 1 four-person toddler teeter totter, and a LARGE rope playground for older children attached to a 2 story metal slide. (Watch out- it can get screaming hot in the summer). There are 2 baby swings, 2 regular swings, and 1 large single or multi-child saucer type swing. Plenty of parents willing to push a pack of kids on the saucer.
There is a piece of equipment for kids 16 months to 4 or 5, and another 1 year old installation for kids 2-10ish. It has tunnels, short slides, and fills the gap between "baby stuff" and "Big kid stuff" that the park was previously missing for about 5-6years.
There is a known park problem, however, and it is serious. MANY parents have issues with the MAIN piece of playground equipment & it is ALWAYS a topic of discussion among parents. It concerns the focal piece of the playground. A Large 20+ ft slide with a LARGE instsllation of rope netting to climb. Seems great, but: At the top, there is a 3ish ft GAP between net and cupola/slide platform. It is 20+ feet high. There are 2 (two) ways to get to the top. Both from navigating the rope climb. BOTH sides have a significant gap. Younger/younger smaller kids CANNOT reach from rope to platform, and risk falling even if age appropriate to climb. Although there IS space, there is NO LADDER OR STAIRS for a parent or emergency personnel to climb up in case of emergency. There is ALWAYS a child asking for help from a father, teen, tall/older child... This is TERRIBLE-- if you have a child under 6. Or is clumsy. Or short. Or a child with slippery shoes who missteps at the big gap... so use appropriate caution.
Overall, it's a great park, with a somewhat standard playgeound park for most kids. The trees themselves are a main draw, and are fun to play and...
Read moreThis used to be a great park for everyone to go to. With the trails you could hike in the woods, or the trail around the park you could walk. You have so many open field space to play games in. The play ground was nice for kids both young and old until the redid the whole thing about a week ago. Now the play ground is one big risk. The main part of the new set up is aimed for older kids, if you let your kids climb on it watch them closely because the wholes in the net are spaced so far out. The slide is metal.. we live in Florida and they have decided to bring back metal slides.. the new little kids area is just as dangerous as the main part of the play ground with high open spaces for kids to jump/fall out of. When they redid this play ground they did not think it through. Some of the smaller things are nice but can be dangerous (as with most things at parks) so if you’re not willing to watch your kids then there is a bigger risk of them getting hurt. Also there are no more swings here which was a real bummer for my kids. Losco also has a splash pad which is nice for those hot summer days but please tell your kids not to run because the ground is slippery and green algae like stuff has been growing around it which has been making it more of a slip hazard, and since there is no soft padding the kids could hit their heads on the concrete which I have seen happen. I have become really disappointed in this park. We used to come all the time and now I do not want to risk my...
Read moreLosco Regional Park has something for everyone! There is a decent size playground, lake with ducks that I've seen ppl fish in, empty fields to play fetch or frisbee with your dog, soccer fields, sidewalks surrounding the park, as well as a 5k wooded trail for walking with or without dogs (leash law, some ppl follow, some don't) and even riding your bike on. The trail is what I come to when I go to the park. There are 3 loops that make a large loop. Red is .7 miles, white 1.5 miles, and a blue trail .7 miles that you must cross a bridge to complete and come back through. Seems that the trails are kept up with for the most part but as we move into the hot weather and growing season they will definitely need to increase the amount of times they trim per month. Red trail is wide and no problem, white trail gets single file and over grown fast, and the blue trail can get even worse. There is a map at the entrance and just a few benches along the way. No trash cans throughout the trails, but there is one at the entrance. There are bathrooms at the park but I have never used them so cannot speak to cleanliness. I believe the hours are from dawn to dusk but don't quote me on that one. Great place for kids, picnics, team sports, fur babies, or a...
