This Museum is a must see! There are 2 White Buffalo among the heard in the pasture adjacent to the museum. Inside the Museum is a beautifully restored White Buffalo named White Cloud, along with many other professionally prepared exhibits for all ages to enjoy. The theater runs an informative movie about the history of American Buffalo. If you visit in the early morning when they open or in the evening when itโs cooler, (or both, like we did), you may get a longer look at the White Buffalo (Bison), out in the pasture and visible from the parking lot. This is an amazing experience to see the White Tatanka(Bison). I canโt say enough about the Museum Director, Ms. Xinos, as she was very accommodating, along with her staff. They were informative and engaging. They could tell us about the character of the White Buffalo and their interactions with the heard. The gift shop has some very reasonably priced and appealing gifts. Outside the Museum is the giant Buffalo statue that the kids will love, and the Historical town. Thereโs something...
ย ย ย Read moreWife wanted to see the world's largest buffalo ๐ We were on our way to Bismarck from Fargo and Jamestown seemed like a good place to pullover for a break. Google Maps directions took us along a gravel road to get here but upon leaving my TomTom GPS avoided that gravel road. This museum has a building that serves as the "main" museum that has a gift shop and you pay/donate to go through the exhibits but there is also an outside "town" to walk through (most buildings have a donation box) and step into some of the buildings that are on "display" with furniture, manikins, etc. At one end of the town is a playground/picnic area and a path leading to the world's largest buffalo. There are two pay binoculars here to use to see the buffalo nearby is desired. Parking is free, we parked near the chapel and I believe I saw a handicap spot here as well and perhaps near the museum as well? Some folks just drove to the end of the town, made a u-turn and drove back. It wasn't too busy...
ย ย ย Read moreI was driving along Interstate 94 and saw a huge buffalo standing on a hill off to the north. I decided to Check it out and discovered it was part of the National Buffalo Museum. This turned out to be a wonderful stop. The National Buffalo Museum is located near a frontier Village and highlights the history of the Buffalo that once roamed the plains and todayโs efforts to preserved the remaining herds. The highlight of the museum is a white buffalo named White Cloud who was once part of the Museums small herd. White Cloud died in 2016 and is displayed as part of an exhibit inside the museum. I spent about an hour walking through the museum and thing walked about a quarter mile out to Dakota Thunder, the 25-foot tall 60-ton concrete buffalo that I had seen from the Interstate. It is billed as โthe worlds largest buffaloโ and just has to be one of North Dakotaโs most popular Roadside attractions. This is an excellent museum and a perfect place to break up the...
