My family and I enjoyed our visit to the Jefferson area and our kids' first time to Santa's Village. We chose Josselyn's as most of the cabins are dog friendly. We stayed in the Hikers Cabin for 2 nights. It's nice that Santa's Village is located only a couple minutes down the road. The cabin is very rustic, but it suited our needs. My kids really enjoyed the ladder access to the loft bedroom with 2 beds. We put our Berner in her usual kids play pen in the kitchen area with linoleum flooring. It was a bit of a tight fit, but that's ok as the important thing was that we could include our dog with our trip.
The cabin was equipped with a window a/c, a full sized coffee maker and a toaster oven. It also had a full size refrigerator and stove. The bathroom was decent sized. The bedroom downstairs had a full bed. The BR is a bit small, but my wife and I made it work.
The property has a nice layout. Our cabin didn't have the most privacy, but that was ok with us. There are other cabins that are very secluded if that's what you are looking for. We enjoyed the fire pit with benches and table very much. There is also a kids playground on the property, so that was fun for the kids.
We ordered takeout from the Old Country Store and Lancaster Pizza. Both were very good. My family ate breakfast at Grandma's Kitchen while I met up with a customer. The breakfast was amazing. When finished, we walked our Berner down to the nearby boat launch to look for wildlife. It's nice having multiple options within 15-20 minutes. The Old Country Store is located only 5 minutes down the road. It has a lot of deli options and also provides gasoline.
The reservation process and check in and check out process was seamless. The unfortunate part is that it's all virtual, so there's no interaction with any physical people. We have no idea who actually owns and runs the property. It would have been nicer to have a person to actually meet and ask questions. I understand that during covid things change. This system must work for them and ultimately it did work for us.
A big issue is all of the rules. We had to put down a $150 deposit and the only way to get it back is if we followed the long list of rules. That means sweeping up the place and wiping down all surfaces at departure. That also means removing all trash from the cabin at departure. We are always respectful of the properties we stay in, but we were really nervous that we would forget to comply with one of the rules and therefore forfeit our deposit. It looks like we got it back, so that's a relief.
Overall, I highly recommend this property when visiting Santa's Village. We are definitely looking at visiting again next year. SV was awesome and with this property being dog friendly, it's nice that we can bring the entire family. Just as a note, Santa's Village does provide a kennel option on the property that we didn't explore. Josselyn's was within 5 minutes of SV, so I just left the park for 15 minutes to let our Berner...
Read morePosted Summer 2016: We recently spent two nights at The Rocks @ Josselyn's and booked our next trip before we even left. We enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere, the walks around the grounds, our campfires, and the chance to just relax. Our son loves his new walking stick that we purchased and especially loves the Mickey ears that were added to it along with his name. Due to my children's ages some of the cabins are not as functional for us at this time and some just have far more sleeping space than we need. The Rocks is perfect for us with two bedrooms and a bathroom on half of the house and a kitchen with dining area and living room on the other. Plenty of room for playing cars and trucks on the floor without being underfoot. The kitchen is separated enough from the living room so as not to feel like everyone is on top of one another, but close enough to feel that everyone is still together even when you are cooking.
Pet friendly in most cabins ... FYI: The Rocks is not pet friendly. Update We just returned from a weekend away at The Rocks at Josselyn's. We have already booked two trips for 2017 and will be trying a new cabin each time ... we love The Rocks, but can't pass up the opportunity to try another beautiful log cabin.
Please note: the reviews above were written regarding stays that occurred when the wonderful original owners (the Josselyn's) still owned and operated the location. Update and response to the current owner posting information on the number of times I have stayed - information that I did not choose to share.
First, you said I stayed 10 times. Then you said I stayed 2 + 9 times ... 2+9=11
Second, do you really think that it is good business to post private information (the number of times I have stayed there) online for the world to see? I can't imagine that behavior like this will win you any customers.
Regarding if I would change my reviews based on the owners, I think your behavior has made the point for me.
I do not currently (2023) recommend this...
Read moreTo be honest great location, friendly staff to your face had a great time there. But once we left and got the email for charges stating we didn't pick up. I can assure everyone it was cleaned, swept, counters wiped down. We were charged an extra 40, sent pictures of the most absurd things but mentioned chocolate in the beds didn't get a picture of that but the pictures we did receive as proof of messes was just Hilarious a bottle cap on the floor, the tissue box wasn't on the table. There was a stool that was not put back in the right location. Dozens of water bottles throughout the house received picture of 1 bottle as proof. Accused over corkscrews throughout the house, mind you we had one bottle of wine that had a cork other one didn't makes me believe even more the exaggerated water bottles since you straight lied about multiple cork screws. They will expect 5 star cleanup. Pull out couch did not work, grill was so rusted on top rack couldn't use that, also any grilling utensils definitely bring your own rusted so bad. Also that respectable family you mentioned that were friends/family of ours will not be coming back they seen the house before we left and we're surprised we got charged extra. Trust me I'll do everything I can to make sure and friends or relatives steer clear...
