Shakerag Park is a great neighborhood spot with something for everyone, especially families with active kids. The highlight for me is the large soccer field, which includes two turf cricket pitches—a rare find in most public parks. It’s a perfect place for kids to practice their cricket skills or play casual games with friends. There's plenty of open space, and it’s well-maintained.
Younger kids aren’t left out either. There’s a small, covered play area with swings, slides, and climbing features. It’s shaded, which is a big plus during hot days, and it gives parents a place to relax while the little ones play safely.
The park also has a peaceful walking trail that loops through a wooded area. It’s not a long hike, but it offers a quiet escape into nature. You can hear birds singing, enjoy the trees, and just take a moment to unwind. It’s ideal for a light walk, some fresh air, or even a quick jog.
The one downside is the limited parking. The main lot fills up quickly, especially on weekends or when games are scheduled. Fortunately, there’s a large parking area at the middle school next door, and it’s just a short 10-minute walk to the park. Still, it would be more convenient if the park had more on-site spaces.
Overall, Shakerag Park is a clean, well-rounded community space that’s great for sports, play, and a bit of nature. Just be ready for a short walk if the main...
Read moreHow on earth did I miss this park all these years? My son went to Shakerag Middle School right next door, and yet I never once set foot here until today. Big mistake. Because this place is a hidden masterpiece. Forget your typical neighborhood park. This one comes with legit hiking trails, two full pavilions, a playground, restrooms (yes, clean ones), picnic tables, grills, and even a fishing pier. And let's not ignore the fact that it's dog-friendly with waste stations--translation: no excuses not to bring your four-legged buddy. But here's the kicker: the Storybook Trail. If you've got kids and you haven't walked this trail, you're flat-out cheating them out of something magical. Giant trees shade the path, beams of sunlight slip through the canopy, and page by page a story unfolds as you hike. It's part exercise, part fairytale, and completely unforgettable. The nature trail is an easy 1.33 miles--perfect for a quick adventure that doesn't feel "quick." The talking trail is another, that you absolutely cannot miss. I'm already planning my return trip with my husband and son for fishing off the pier. This park is hiding in plain sight, and honestly, if you live nearby and haven't been, you're doing yourself a disservice. Stop driving past it. Stop...
Read moreIt's fun to head out to Shakerag park in the summer evenings. They have a 400m track that is nice to walk on, while enjoying games of soccer and cricket that typically are happening at the same time in the fields.
The main park has 4 batting cages for cricket net practice. There are two children's play areas - one next to the parking and one near the track. The restrooms are nice and clean. Next to the parking area are also some picnic tables and barbeque pits and a small lake where people can often be seen fishing.
The park facilities are shared with Rivertrail Middle school where you can find 4 tennis courts, a baseball field and a basketball court. These are open to the public outside of school hours.
There is also a wooded walking trail that can be accessed from the far right end of the cricket field, but it is very uneven with lots of tree roots embedded in the paths. Also lot of cobwebs that you might walk into so, be aware.
