This review is for the Owner to please train staff on Food Allergies. We arrived today for lunch at 1 pm. Sat on the front porch, young blonde waitress was told my husband had food allergies. He ordered "The Plain Jane Burger"from the menu. He requested it to be served with just salt & pepper. I asked if the chef could cook it in a clean skillet with a clean spatula. Not a heavy ask by any means. This is a very routine request I make and when I get pushback its an immediate red flag that I am not being heard or understood. The rehearsed response she gave was "We can't guarantee there won't be cross contamination. And for the pan, I don't think so, but I'll ask". She returned and said "Oh, only meat is made on the grill like chicken, bacon and beef". She is clearly unaware there are oils, marinades, and seasonings that contaminate cooking services. Needless to say the burger arrived drenched in melted cheddar cheese, french fries and pickles. We had to reorder. The rest of us sadly had to eat in front of him while we waited for the second burger. He still got terribly sick 20 minutes later. Obviously, butter, corn or soy oil is used on the grill. We chose your restaurant specifically because of the Allergy Friendly persona. Please do not advertise on your website and your menu "We take allergies seriously" if the staff is not going to be trained and take it seriously. My husband did not choose to have these allergies, it is a true disability and I wish the server today just could have had a better approach and oversight. They underestimate and disregard thier control in a serious situation. This really is a heartfelt review to help improve the safety for other patrons with allergies at your restaurant. Unfortunately, this is a growing population that can be easily accommodated with minimal steps and training. Thank you...
Read moreThis place was awesome!
We ordered a wine tasting flight, which was awesome- it is a 1oz pour of each of their wines. I am normally a sweet wine person but their driest red wine was so awesome with the oak notes and a heck of a chocolate finish. I also liked the two sweetest wines. We were there at closing time so we need to go back and pick up some bottles for later. My wife also had the Sangria with made her quite happy! :-) Since I was driving (Don't drink and drive, kids) I had a cup of their Vinyard grape juice which was lovely with just a hint of oak and cinnamon.
In terms of food, we ordered the deluxe domestic cheese plate which was quite lovely, with warm bread, an apple, three good cheeses, and a lovely mustard which was also made on the premise.
We had the "Fun Guy" pizza which was a white pizza with a garlic butter sauce, mushrooms, and a garlic aioli sauce on top. It was heavenly. (And remember, I was completely sober...)
This eating experience has been a highlight of our trip to Kelley's Island and I cannot recommend it...
Read moreThe winery is a great place for the whole family to spend time. Wine is good. Great food. And if the menu at the winery isnt what youre looking for at the moment, KI Cantina is on site as well and you can just walk over there and get food, and bring it back over to your table at the winery, or vice versa. Papa Ts ice cream is also on site for ice cream, shakes, etc.
The property itself is the best part for us. Theres the huge wrap around porch/patio around the building with lots of seating that is perfect and plenty of space inside as well. They also have a nice little playground area for little kids with a little farm area where kids can feed chickens and goats. Inside, they have a little shop area where they sell apparel and other little local things. They also have a ton of board games available for entertainment. Its such a great option for families as parents can relax, have drinks, not be in a hurry....and the kids don't have to be bored at all....
