We stopped for dinner a couple nights ago. The location is beautiful, but the tables were dirty --sticky dirty -- and although we were there for more than an hour, we never saw a single person leave the bar or building to clean or sanitize anything. In the middle of a pandemic, this is disconcerting.
The server (at the counter) also told us everything was house made -- first off, the hot sauce came in packets, and the chips were Tostitos (at best), which aren't exactly reproducible at a restaurant. The margaritas were decent (but they told us only on the rocks, while the neighboring table had frozen). Unfortunately, the chips, cheese dip, salsa and guac were not good. We ended up going back to our lake house for dinner.
I am giving this place three stars because, on the off chance we were there on a really bad night, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. The plus is the setting -- outdoors surrounded by pasture and sunshine. It was a beautiful place to dine,...
Read moreBarely a restaurant, Ki Cantina is supposed to offer Mexican food. But instead they offer soupy tacos for six bucks and quarter cups of microwave rice for two fifty. It's a hostage food situation where quality doesn't have to be good to get business because you're stuck with what's available on the island (and most patrons are drunk or drinking.) This is a common problem across other establishments on the island as well but it's very prominent here with the combination of a winery and Mexican inspired restaurant. Seating here was awful, dirty and packed with people. Parking was full. I'm definitely never returning and would highly recommend going elsewhere. I saved my appetite for real food back on the mainland. The picture is of my wife's order. We didn't take a picture of the pathetic minute rice they served our son. Ki cantina should be called Ki Cafeteria because it's a travesty to call it a Mexican restaurant. I've honestly had better food...
Read moreThis place seems to be one of the places to be at Kelly's Island. It was PACKED shortly after opening (and is next door to a winery which is a bonus if you want to kill two birds with one stone).
They have separate lines for drinks vs food which is nice because sometimes one line is much longer than the other. I got the Mexican Bulldog and the chorizo Taco. The margaritas are definitely the highlight there (the tacos and guacamole are ok but nothing particularly special or earth shattering). The overall atmosphere is a good reason to go. The staff and patrons were friendly and welcoming. There was cornhole and live music on the...
