Dorton Co came highly recommended from a friend. I was excited to bring a ring to them where another jeweler had melted the heads on two small diamonds doing a re-tip and then said they couldn't put them back on. DortonCo was very busy and I took that as a good sign as I waited for the jeweler to look at my ring. I showed him the ring and two smaller diamonds and he said, "yes" they could put the two small diamonds on for __ price. Great! I then showed him a picture of the ring when it had the two diamonds on it so he would know the placement. He looked at the picture, then took his loop out and looked at my ring stating the top two diamonds were very white and the third diamond appeared to be very brown with a brown line. I was confused. He had just looked at my ring picture on my phone, so I asked, "Was he implying the diamond had been switched?" I didn't ask for him to appraise or critique the piece, so I didn't know why he was telling me this. He then said, "Oh, woah, I don't do work for people who imply diamonds have been switched." I went on to state, I thought that was what he was implying since he looked at the picture and then took his loop out and said it was very brown. I still don't understand why he was telling me this. He then said, people don't usually put a ring together with high and low quality diamonds unless they're family diamonds they just put together. I said, "Yes, they were family diamonds put into one ring." He then said he was too busy, it would take a month and suggested Blackwell Jewelers. I left, looked at Blackwell's reviews and took the ring there. For that, I'm very grateful, 5 stars. However, for that very bazaar interaction ...1 star. I'll average them and give DortonCo a 3 star review. When I went to Blackwell Jewelers, I told them what happened to the ring and what I wanted. They gave me a price, I showed them my ring picture for placement, and they told me when it would be ready. No insulting my ring's diamond quality or...
Read moreUpon my first visit to John, Owner of Dorton Co Jeweler. I met Johns daughter, she was very pleasant. When Johns customer exited the premise, I introduced myself and asked him for help.
As an owner with a new customer sent in by a referral within the industry, I was APPALLED at Johns demeanor as well as no auditory abilities to listen to a new customer. I had under five minutes to listen to John brag how much money he makes "$500 an hour setting stones" without even knowing why I was in his store!! He rattled like a machine gun about not being interested in doing any "CUSTOM JEWELRY ORDERS, during the holiday season and told me to come back in MARCH, 2025.?!"
Before John stopped talking over me, he greeted someone that walked in he knew. After waiting again after his rude dysfunction unable to concentrate on the customer in front of him, I waited. He ignored me as I had pulled up photos of settings that could be ordered without it being custom until the random date of after March, 2025, five months later. At that point, the customer he knew had his son come in without an appointment. I waited AGAIN!!! 45 minutes in the store, I sincerely dismissed myself from the store, to his daughter stating, "obviously, John is too busy.
God bless you John Dorton! Try this one on for size... Jeremiah 9:23-24: I'll never step foot into your store again for...
Read moreWell, I got the battery in my Michelle watch but got it back with scratches on the face and on the back of the watch. When I mentioned it, they had a ton nothing but reason why it could not have been them. Crazy thing is that their main repeated reason was that it was not new. As if that is a reason why there are scratches on my watch that were not there when I dropped it off. The man who fixed tried to talk to me about the entire process of fixing or repairing a watch. I don't need to know the process. With all due respect, that is why I pay people to do the process. I do not recommend this place for service or repair needs. I can't speak to their products but I can say they will not get any more of my money. $10 for a watch battery was more than they deserved with the service they provided. I do recommend you take pictures of items you plan on taking to them. Hopefully, this does not happen to anyone else. However, it is better to be safe...
