The playground itself is awesome for most kids. The most difficult thing I've noticed is how busy the playground is for kids in wheelchairs. They probably have to do things the same way I have to with my son with severe autism and try to find times that are not as busy. I think most people take inclusive in the wrong way at times where they think they have to get rid of the other toys and put the disability toys right next to everyone else. That usually does the opposite of intentions by giving less toys to play with and then having more healthy kids using all the toys that were meant for kids that have more difficult disabilities. I'm grateful for effort but at the same time realizing this areas not that great for disabilities especially considering it's over 300,000 people now and this park is the most centralized one. Comparing to Spokane's metropolitan area it is kind of disturbing. Seems like this is kind of the way it always goes through mismanagement of state funds vs city funds I really don't know but you would think the state would have to contribute so much to level out taxes otherwise it's easy to blame the disabled when realistically the city has been growing tremendously and is more than likely going to have more disabled just through development which would make you think the state itself has to step up so there is not so much stigma towards the disabled. It's a great playground I just don't think everything is put into a logical...
Read moreIt is a large park with lots of different opportunities for families, including a large jungle gym and play fort, along with a splash pad, covered seating areas, a duck pond that is stocked for fishing, and a skate park.
While all of these things are great, it fails to live up to its name in a couple key ways. First, it is not exactly the easiest park to get into and out of. Access is limited, and really only accessible by car - which explains why you'll rarely see kids on the skatepark. Secondly (and most importantly) this park is showing a lot of wear. The playground itself is wearing out, with several broken toy pieces, boards that are falling apart, and a general lack of upkeep. It can still be fun, but you get the feel that what was once someone's dream is now a pain for the city to maintain.
All in all it is a neat park, but it isn't quite the experience the...
Read moreDefinitely one of the best parks in the area! There’s nearly a dozen little play areas with different themed structures. Plenty of picnic tables, gazebos, benches, shade trees and open grassy areas for throwing a football or frisbee, flying a kite or playing fetch with the pooch. Restrooms are nearby although one has recently burned down sadly. There are horseshoe pits and a splash park attached to this park to cool down in the summer! Across the road is the skate park for older kids... the and the River is a few minutes walk away. Don’t forget about the family fishing pond and nearby Veterans memorial too! During hot summer days you can usually find concessions like Tropical Sno and Elephant Ears can be found bordering the parking area... and don't forget to look for the sweet older Hispanic gentleman who pushes around a wheeled cart of frozen...
