I have rated EBSP 5⭐'s for years as we have stayed here for more than 8 + years. But after our 2024 trip. I have had to change this... I really hate leaving negative reviews, i really do.. but this was our experience. And we all know what opinions are... so take it as you will. Blessings JT

The road going in Live Oaks will knock your vehicles alignment out, and your teeth if do not dodge the massive holes. It is the worst we have ever seen it.

There was dog crap everywhere, you can see and smell it all over the park. We did not have our dog, but noticed there are no longer poop bags for dogs anymore. All of the trash cans this year are gone, to allow folks to throw that and trash away in. There are no trash cans in or out of the bath house or in the park, other than the one big dumpster. The bath house, needs help. You can see in the closet where the plumbing is when taking a shower, with the moldy shower curtains. We have and still do love Edisto. But the state park, it is obvious there is no money being put into keeping the Live Oaks area up. We do not stay on the ocean, so not sure what it is like down there. There were 5 sites that showed Host, and we only ever seen one. They would clean sites and the restrooms, and were pleasant when spoken to, or waved in passing. I much rather leave positive reviews and comments as there is enough negativity in the world. But this is my birthday and mine and my wife's annual Anniversary (23 years) trip the past 8 + years. And are thinking about looking other places next year. As Edisto has went down hill over the past few years. We live in SC and realize that the state parks unfortunately do not receive a lot of money, (if any from the looks of this and the others anymore, with the ACOE would run them like GA). But as much as they stay booked up some attention can be given to certain areas to keep the parks maintained at minimum.

Go see for yourself. This was just our experience.....

The park consists of several locations which unfortunately for us was not clear on the brochure so we had to double back to see the interpretive center on Rt 174 and then back to the beach area. The signs for the center are a bit ambiguous. We were not sure if it was the place we were looking for. When we finally got to it and parked we had to discern where to go and how to get in. As we entered the staff was busy chatting and took awhile to actually greet us. Over all they were more interested in chatting than informing us of what the center had to offer. The ranger talk based around the tank and it's inhabitants within the center was quite disappointing. Very unusual in our experience to have someone doing a presentation within the center unfamiliar with many basic concepts of the area. The center itself is worth a stop though as its displays are well thought out and informative. Having seen the sea turtle nest all over the beach in Edisto we were most interested in learning more about them. We ended up adopting a nest and the certificate and stuffed turtle that came with the adoption made the experience extra special. Unfortunately the staff was unable to tell us where along the beach it was but gave us a section of the beach where we were likely to find it. We did find it a bit further down than they guessed but not too far. The beach area has a very nice gift shop, bath house and plenty of parking. Over all a...

For a state park the sites are very close together with no separation, one reviewer even thought he had a buddy site but it was a single site. It's all dirty and dusty, sometimes that is ok but would it hurt to put a little gravel down so everything is not covered in dust or mud as those are the 2 options. Once you get past the close sites and overall dirt the sites on the beach are nice and walking distance to town for food. There are nice breezes off the ocean or marsh but bugs at dusk make it hard to have a fire. Finally you have to watch out for the snakes hiding in the leaves. There are leaf piles all over. While we were here for 6 days they found and relocated over 20 copper heads after a dog and 2 kids were almost bitten. The beach was empty which was nice of your looking for a quote beach. Cell service on Verizon was 118db or 103db with cell booster/ antenna. Barely useable for work or video calls. All the trees made for good shade in the sites but don't expect a good start link connection from most sites.

The adventure here was how primitive this park is when it could be really nice out was just tight and everything will leave dusty, salty, or dirty. We stayed at the beachside of the #statepark campground for 4 nights in our 20 ft Airstream. The weather was lousy (rainy, cold December which may taint my review). There is the Live Oaks section and the beachside section where we were. Overall the sites were decent, some better than others. Our site, #69, was not very private, however, it was so close to the ocean we heard the waves crashing. We had some nice palms overhead. Across from us was the marsh, with lovely sites. The beach was close and of course quite beautiful. There are bike and walking trails throughout the campground. The Live Oaks section had many more trees and very private sites. The bathhouse wasn't bad on the beachside, but the Live Oaks bathhouse wasn't great. The bathhouse was heated which was awesome in the winter, and pretty clean. The showers were decent, with lots of hot water, but could have been a bit cleaner (see my pictures). The people staying there were very friendly which was a lot of fun. Nice camp store. One downside is it is out in the middle of nowhere, which may be a great thing for some, but there wasn't much to do nearby, and took forever to get there on small roads from Rt 95. Not sure I'd stay there again.

Stayed here in April 2018. Originally I wanted a site at the Beach Campground but all the sites were taken for my week. Ended up booking site 120 at Live Oaks. When I arrived I was so glad I had to "settle" for Live Oaks. The beach campground sites were right on top of each other while the sites at Live Oak had more space between the sites. I would HIGHLY recommend sites 112 - 125 overlooking the salt marsh. Great views behind the sites with no neighbors behind you. These sites are very wide with lots of trees between them and being only 3/4 of a mile from the ocean yo could hear the waves. Sites 94 - 87 were very close to the street and seem to be loud from the traffic when we walked by them. All the walk in sites were amazing, if that's your thing. We have a 28 foot hybrid that fit nicely in the site. There is a nice camp store at Live Oaks and the shower house is also very nice. The thing I found most suprising was that there are signs trough out the park sating that alcohol is prohibited at all. The walking trails were also amazing and so peaceful. Site pics are from 80, 113, 118 and 2 from 120.

We LOVE Edisto Island. The slow pace, limited commercialization, and beautiful scenery. The beach is awesome, and we have tons of fun in the creeks and back waters with our 17' aluminum boat. Cruising, dolphin watching, oystering, and crabbing are all tons of fun. But, if you want to stay busy and entertained or keep the kids at the arcade or amusement park, forget it. Edisto doesn't have them, thank heavens. This is a place to slow down. If you come and like nature and history, be sure to check out Botney Bay. Take the hike to the beach. It is well worth it. You can almost see the Pirate Ships in the distance and Ole Blackbeard burying his booty. If you like to camp, check out the state park Live Oaks marsh side camp sites. But beware in the summer, the Flying Teeth will eat you alive. If you have ever been on an SC marsh at a summer sunset, you know about flying teeth or people eating Noseeums. Them suckers are vicious. Come in cool weather or bring bug spray by the gallon.
