I stayed here for a few days in August with a family of 5. The first thing to note is that, these aren’t really “cottages” but rather a converted motel, which you should be able to discern pretty easily from the photos.||We rented unit 7, a two bedroom apartment closest to the road (bedrooms were in the back of the unit, and we didn’t notice road noise at night).||Positives:|The location is directly across the street from the beach. Saltaire has its own little beach entrance carved out. This is probably the best setup short of being on the beach itself.|Parking was ample. |The unit was clean and a lot of new supplies were provided (beyond the typical toiletries, things like paper towels, a new sponge, etc)..|The pool was always empty.||Negatives:|Because this is a converted motel, the floorplans are wonky. Our two bedroom was “railroad” style, meaning you had to pass through one bedroom to get to the other. The living space was a small mashup of kitchen/living/dining. TVs were froced into awkward places like on top of the refrigerator and above a wardrobe.| While there was clearly some renovation work done, these units are still rough around the edges. The appliances are old. The bathroom showers are those unattractive molded plastic affairs. There’s painted-over rotting wood all around the exterior. The pool needs to be resurfaced. Etc. etc. etc. Everything was serviceable, but don’t go in expecting this to be high-end or modern.|*Decor is chintzy at best.||In short, if you’re looking for a convenient crash-pad near the beach with space for a family, this place works pretty well. If you’re looking for something luxurious and polished, this isn’t going to be it. We also stayed at the Hampton Inn on Corolla for a similar price, and while it was only one room, it was probably a better...
Read moreThis is how a beach Vacation should be ! ||Old world charm and a beach that is not over crowded and lined with Hotels and McMansions!! Unspoiled||We have been coming here close to 30 years ( only missing a couple). The current Owners are so gracious to us and appreciate the longevity of us year after coming back. The beauty of Saltaire is really the set up. Having your own 2 bedroom units ( the ones we stay in). There are as many of 18 of us and we all hang around the great pool and beach all day and share the common spaces throughout. Then we can all retreat to our own family units. You cannot get that with a big house with 18 people together and the chaos that usually goes along with if after a week!. ||The location is perfect, across the beach and right on Beach road and next to Art's place and the Newer cigar and Bourbon bar Tap That.||The grounds are kept clean as well as the pool daily. I do not know how they do it but the cleaning staff are truly great ! They are so considerate of everyone they meet and are eager to please. They have been there for a number of years now and Dan and Amanda must be doing something right to keep them. ( keep doing it guys)..||We look forward to coming back next year and have the same great experience we have come to love.||The...
Read moreAbsolutely loved the house (cottage 14), and immediately started planning our return visit! The exterior is a little run down but the interior is gorgeous. Beautiful renovation. The king master bedroom with 1/2 bath is snug, but overall there was plenty of room upstairs for our fam of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids) over Mother’s Day weekend plus an awesome bonus rec area downstairs with a laundry room, an extra fridge, bedroom (I’d suggest adding a bed as opposed to the sleeper sofa), full bathroom, living room with large flat screen tv and L-shaped couch, shuffle board table, which the kids loved, and board games. The customer service was excellent, and you can book however long you want, which is unusual since most places make you book a full week. Location in Kitty Hawk is ideal and the proximity to the beach was great. You could see the beach from the house and the private access was just across the street. Great burgers next door at Art’s Place and amazing poke bowls at Aloha Poke & Grill just 4min away near the Harris Teeter and Walmart. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Amanda, Pam, Stephanie, and Dave for being so accommodating! Can’t wait to see the updates to the kitchen and exterior. Saltaire...
