The trail is very moderate for the first half and then the second half gets a bit more challenging. There is a downed tree that runs across the trail in the towards the half way point. When I researched later, the incline is about 100 feet. It was 80% incline from start of trail and 20% decline. When we headed back, it was a treat to have it switch to 80% decline. Definitely have long sleeves or bug repellant as the mosquitos are around. I recommend t wear sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat to protect from sunburn. Wear some good shoes for those rocks. Very beautiful views! Now there is a very steep climb to the point for the bottom of you don’t want to go through the whole trail head as we saw people with sticks climbing up. For me and my husband who are not in shape, it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes up with a couple of breaks and 45 minutes back with no breaks. As you drive around the rim the people will be more disbursed than at the visitor center.
