This place was absolutely ridiculous when I showed up on a Tuesday afternoon. And I can understand to an extent a lack of courteous service whenever you deal with the public on this level but let's be real there was no reason that you served the person behind me in line moved a different person in front of me in line and let them pay while I'm standing in the middle wondering why I don't just leave my 2 postcards and coffee mug sitting there because I want them even less as the minutes go by because the more I watch this circus the more I realize that I may not want to remember this place quite in that way. And it truly was a circus just all kinds of ignorant tourists walking this way and that way, not paying any kind of attention and running into people and walking in front of you and then stopping so you can't get around them.... What a mess, I would avoid it if you could and if you do feel the need to come bring lots and lots of patience, like buckets of it. That being said if you don't bring any food with you, they do serve food, it is quite literally just the basics and even that line is chaos but you won't starve. Overall my visit to the park improved dramatically once I left the...

Yep, our June 2017 vacation that I waited for over the last 40-years was in the middle of a snow storm blizzard and the snow was from 6 to 16 feet deep around the lake and the visitor's center. Visibility was about 500 feet and although many with children loved the snow, it totally blocked the view of the lake.
Did make it up to the top parking lot and building and did walk through the storm only to find a gift shop with very little food and services. Totally glad we had our NPS Senior's card as if we had paid for this 'experience' it would have been horrible.
In clear warm weather plan on two to four hours at the site as you should be able to circle the lake {We could not due to the snow closing the north entry and the circle drive}.
Directions from I-5 are somewhat vague and we got lost where OR-234 meets OR-62. You need to turn LEFT at the intersection that fells like you should be turning right. GPS and phone service is intermittent in the area.
You can do the trip from Crescent City to Crater Lake and then to Klamath falls in one day. Be prepared for possible detours and winding...

However, the current infrastructure here isn’t supporting the sheer volume of tourists that come thru here to visit this stunning work of Mother Nature.
It’s nice they have a cafe to grab food... and decent menu variety... but it’s a zoo. Sooo crowded, not enough tables, long lines, and some confusion as to where the lines start.
Also - no food tray provided - at least not when I went - and not much bench top space by cashier and tea/coffee area. was so wary of scalding myself, as I had a takeout cup of tea in one hand, balancing my food on the other, and hardly any bench top space to put something down. Ok if you got a friend with you, but if you’re on your own, or that friend is struggling with a balancing act themselves, it’s hard.
In fairness, this was on a public holiday weekend... so you might have a 4/5 star experience during the week. But still, I do hope they have plans to expand this facility to cope...
