The sculptures are located outside of the small town of Borrego Springs over a large area of several square miles. The sculptures were built by Ricardo Breceda for the landowner (the late) Dennis Avery. Overall, there are 130 sculptures of all kinds – dragons, dinosaurs, horses, elephants, and much, much more. You can spend a day and not see them all up close. . Before I had known about the sculptures of Galleta Meadows, I had ridden my motorcycle for a day trip to Borrego Springs. After having lunch in town, I explored the area and came across a couple of the sculptures and the more I explored, the more sculptures I found! . I rode back home and two weeks later I brought a group of motorcycle riders who had never seen them before either. We were all impressed and now I make a trip to see them...

This is an absolute must see if you are roadtripping between San Diego and Palm Springs, or even if you are making a special journey to view them. I can't recommend it enough. Download a map by searching the internet, (I believe you can also get them from Borrego Springs visitor centre) and head out into the desert to view the many metal sculptures dotted around. The dragon is the most impressive spanning across the road. The scorpion and grasshopper are amazing, and you'll find lots of other wild animals and dinosaurs nearby. You can drive right up to many of the sculptures, although there are signs near others that state it is a private estate and you will need to park on the road side. It's a photographer's dream attraction but fabulous to visit for all ages. It's so surreal....

Great detailed sculptures! Great past time and theres trails that lead to each sculpture by foot and by vehicle. Easily accessible with a 2wd. The sculptures are also spread out so it'd make for a good walk. I didn't notice a specific parking area but I'm pretty sure you could park anywhere as long as you dont disrupt traffic of course. I went during evening and there was no one but then again it's off season. Most importantly, a great spot to see the milky way and many stars. Finally, do not forget sunscreen and water! Even though it is fall and went in the evening, it...

Lovely little drive (came through Julian entrance). Make sure you bring extra water because it gets HOT! The statues are wonderful to look at. You can google the locations of them all beforehand and screenshot the map since service tends to get lost since this is a remote area in the desert. The dragon is by far the largest sculpture. Some of the sculptures are accessible by walking only since some of the dirt roads have been blocked off to preserve the area. Also, some of the dirt roads are very bumpy with deep holes so make sure you drive carefully or take a 4x4.

Watch out for the local residents! They take great selfies but not everyone agreed to take one! Definitely was a blast driving around to each one. It was like a metal treasure hunt around the meadows. This trip wasn't planned but just happened to stumble upon these which I thought was more exciting. The little shop has some great items and books. You can purchase a map with details of each sculpture and why they chose each one. Would definitely go back during a different season or a few weeks later for more blooming flowers!
