The Giant Scorpion and Grasshopper Sculptures in Borrego Springs are absolutely incredible!
These massive metal sculptures, crafted by artist Ricardo Breceda, are part of the larger Galleta Meadows Estate collection, which features over 130 awe-inspiring pieces scattered across the desert. The dramatic showdown between the scorpion and grasshopper is one of the most captivating installations, showcasing Breceda’s extraordinary attention to detail and creativity.
Standing tall in the desert landscape, these sculptures are not just artistic marvels but also a tribute to the region’s prehistoric and natural history. Commissioned by philanthropist Dennis Avery, the collection transforms the barren desert into an open-air art gallery, free for all to explore and enjoy.
The scorpion and grasshopper are particularly impressive, symbolizing the intensity of predator-prey dynamics in nature. Located just a few miles from downtown Borrego Springs, these sculptures are easy to find and make for fantastic photo opportunities.

No admission fee and you can park in many places along the road to view individual sculptures and even drive up close to...
