We visited this place after a recommendation from a family member who went in the evening recently in July and called this “a wonder of the world.” We were pretty excited as my husband’s family is Japanese and we also lived there so expected this to be a cross between a spa vs onsen vs Korean spa experience. Unfortunately, I would call this a huge swing and a miss. The concept has a lot of potential but the details leave this place sorely missing a lot.
To explain, we arrived after hiking Zion midday. We are a family with three little kids (1 yo, 4 yo, 8 yo). We did not make reservations in advance as we were told there are very few people attending currently. When we went to get tickets, the attendant was very bad. When we asked questions, she could not answer most of them, and she over charged us ( my family member was also overcharged when she came). Also the resort (or at least our attendant) was charging prices for family vs 21+ access … this makes no sense because, all the mineral pools were closed due to pump issues (this was a huge thing to me because that is the MAJORITY of their pools) and they were allowing access to ANYONE to any part of the resort to make up for it.
We also noticed that no one reminded us, nor was there any signage to tell people to remove jewelry, as mineral water will tarnish it. Again, small details…
The locker rooms were spacious and had soap, shampoo, and conditioner, though the labels are almost not readable.
The pool area is straight outside the locker area, and easily accessed. Now July, mid-day in Utah is very hot. We came from a hike so we only had hiking shoes and sneakers so it was quite a shock to us when you literally could not walk to the pool chairs or area in the middle of the day without either burning your feet or wearing shoes. Generally if this is expected to be a regular thing, a high end spa would offer cheap spa shoes/sandals so their guest can actually safely walk around their resort. At the pool themselves, you couldn’t even touch the railing to walk in as it was burning hot and again would burn you. Because the pavement was so hot, you couldn’t touch the side of the pool without splashing with water first. The pools themselves were nice, though (as previous people mentioned), most of the pools are closed due to pump failures so despite them offering full access to the full resort to make up for it, it is a big deal and does a disservice to the people who are looking for an experience free of children. My kids loved it still. My favorite pools were the ones on the 21+ access area. Very few of the pools had any shade unfortunately, making it hard to stay in the pool too long. There is cold water available to drink through the pool area.
We also used the small cafe they have. It offered a lot of stuff. We ended up getting a bunch of smoothies which were pretty tasty.
In the end, I don’t know that I would return. If you are paying that premium price, you should be getting a high end experience, that is thoughtful of the customer’s experience. Rather, I feel this place is just offering different pools, hoping it will speak for itself. A comparable Japanese onsen would cost me at most $10-15 US dollars and the experience would have...
Read moreI’d skip this one if I were you. We had a pretty terrible customer service experience there, which is unacceptable considering my husband and I paid $150 for a food and drink package and our 3 hour rate. If you’re charging that much, your customer service better be EXCELLENT and your pools should be pristine, which is what we were expecting for the price we paid. We had several bad run-ins.
The first was in the locker room. During check-in the red headed employee briefly explained the locker instructions and they seemed simple enough. I went into the locker room and could not for the life of me get the chip to work on a locker. It was probably user error, which I fully admit, but the employee did not explain how to use them, just that you hold your wristband to it to lock it. After struggling with multiple lockers, I went back to the front desk, thinking my wristband could’ve been broken or I just didn’t know how to use it.
I approached the same employee who had checked us in just moments before, and told her I thought my wristband may have had a problem, and I was nice about it. I waited my turn in line, I was polite. She cut the old one off my wrist and examined it. After she threw it into the bin, she turned to her male coworker and said “Well it has a microchip in it so it MUST be broken.” I pretty instantly caught the sarcasm and her coworker LAUGHED in front of me. I’ve worked many customer service jobs before and that is NOT how you do business. If you want to treat customers like that, go work at McDonald’s not a hot springs that charges $70 per customers.
Getting to the hot springs from the locker room is also a little confusing. There were more people than just me who were confused on how to get outside and how to use the lockers. A little signage and better verbal or written instructions would go a long way.
After that experience, I was a bit put off for the rest of the night, but tried not to dwell on it and have the best time we could. We enjoyed some of the pools, the sauna, and it’s very pretty. We did see a little scorpion running around, so be aware if you decide to walk around barefoot at night. That isn’t at all the fault of the facility, but you should be aware.
About 60%-70% of the pools are mineral pools and have rocks in the bottom of them. When we first got into one of these, we thought it was a cool experience. After we settled in, we saw a plethora of dead skin, hair, finger and toe nails and who knows what floating around from our feet disturbing the rocks. GROSS! We stuck to the non rock pools after that, and once again, tried to just focus on having a good time.
However, my husband who left a separate review, had ANOTHER bad experience with using our food and beverage tickets. At this point, our experience was extremely tainted with rude, inconsiderate employees(minus the food and beverage team, they were pretty great) and dirty pools.
Don’t waste your time or your money here. I left practically in tears after being treated rudely time and time again and feeling that we had completely wasted nearly $200 on a terrible experience. We completely regret choosing to spend part of...
