This is one of the jewels of South Orange County. Unfortunately, it has become much more popular in the last 10 years thanks to social media, which means the volume of people who tramp through the first mile of the hike (and usually not much further) has increased significantly. Wildlife has been damaged, although you'd only notice if you're a long-time regular and a nature and plantlife wonk. Otherwise, the area is pristine and safe. Before twilight, be sure you don't have headphones in and that your eyes are keen, otherwise you might obstruct the madmen on their mountain bikes hurtling downhill behind you at speeds of 20-30mph on the trails.
