We've been here nearly two years and just found out about this nearby trail. Our family likes it because it is SHADY and the trail itself has some interesting flora, not to mention huge sugar pinecones throughout. Our Yorkie pup loves it too. We entered the trail at the little sign to the right of the parking lot, and followed it until we were at the top of the hill, where it emptied out onto a paved road that led back to the parking area. The paved road is without shade but it's a quick walk back down to Grass Valley. My Fitbit recorded about 5,200 steps total. We could hear the traffic of Grass Valley during our entire walk, so we did not worry about getting lost, but also there was no feeling of being deep within the forest despite the beauty of our...

This was a very pleasant trail. Long enough to work up a sweat but short enough to complete in about an hour. I recommend using the AllTrail App to have an idea of how the elevation gains during the hike to understand how difficult it might be.

I saw plenty of leashed dogs on the trail along with families with small children - gives you an idea of the difficulty level and what you can expect crowd wise.

We arrived around 10 am on a Sunday, and by the time we were wrapping up, we saw the number of people in the parking lot triple in size, so that tells you it gets a bit crowded.

Definitely recommend this hike - take time to enjoy the Viewpoint.

Remember to pick up after yourself, and if not an inconvenience, take the time to pick up...

The trail is a moderately easy hike in the shade mostly. The trail heads uphill until you get to the lake viewpoint. As most have said the trail is well marked going to the right with paper signs. It’s not until you get to the viewpoint that a well made “main trail “ sign appears. As you continue following the loop trail from the viewpoint it gets really confusing where the “correct” trail is. Using the all trails app you do get back to where you need to go. If correct, the trail ends at the in park road heading back down to the parking area. The trail is nice but the way...
