We had a fantastic time at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum. The definitive highlight of the visit was Rachel, the tour guide. She has such vast knowledge of the local history and great story-telling skills - she pulled us all the way in. Please do yourself a favor and stop by, the interesting local history and its delivery are fantastic. Also, huge props to the entire community for the way they care for the Sallier Oak.

I always believe we should support our local museums because it is our heratige, who we are. This museum is full of local history including the original settlers who first sighted Jean Lafitte the pirate. Many stories growing up in nearby SE Texas and now I'm even more curious of the truth! Great place and a really old and beautiful Oak tree makes the visit even more worth while!

A small but well curated museum. The current exhibition features "Small Wonders" including a thousand year old Greek vase, a portrait of Rodin by Renoir, a scene painted by Clementine Hunter, as well as more modern works by Louisiana artists. The permanent collection highlights the history of Lake Charles. It's easy to spend 45 minutes to an hour here for a patron of the arts.

I Just stopped by the amazing Imperial Calcasieu Museum to discuss some antiques and I have to say I left smiling at the experience. I am a historian by education so to see the excitement of Ashley, Anna and on the previous visit Rachel regarding local history was awesome! They are so enthusiastic about our local history and that brings significant value to adults and children alike.

I took my daughter there earlier in the year and she left inspired and interested in our local history, not because of me but because of the staff. The museum is so impressive. It's not impressive because of its scale (it is small) but rather in the way that it pays a comprehensive tribute to our local history. The space may be smaller than some but it is packed with history, a history that is share by the staff with accuracy and enthusiasm! Unlike some venues, the history shared is not a white history or a black history it is Calcasieu history so there is something for all.

“If you don't know history, it's as if you were born...

A hidden gem indeed! This beautiful museum has been in my town for years, yet I had never been. I recently saw a post on Facebook about it and drove from Moss Bluff, LA to visit. Not only is the museum a treasure but the staff is as well. From the kind greeting as I walked into the door, to the well of information the tour guide had for us, I was immediately pleased with my decision to drive out. I want to commend the staff of the museum on making my visit one...
