Just left this place while on a Wine Trolly. They showed us the backroom of their place to show us a tour. It was just a woman showing us the 5 containers and didnt even know how their wine was made. Just spoke for 5 minutes of some history of the wine maker. Then she said the other person was one of the sisters. They were short some flights due to some miscommunication between them and the trolly company, which is fine because we are only human, but they just kept saying it and the sister said it in a way that undermined their business partner (the trolly service). I did not appreciate this. The sister also ignored me the whole time. She was pouring a few drinks but the place is so small that not even an acknowledgment is rude in my opinion. She then had the "tour" guide help me after about 2-3 minutes of just standing their awkwardly with no one else inside. I understand she was doing something but not even a "hello" or "Hey, give me one moment" or something else. Just completely ignored me after locking eyes with me. After the wine tasting, I then took the wine flight boards back and looked at her and said "here you go, thank you!" She locked eyes and ignored me completely again after I said it straight to her. The wine flight was a totall of 4 wines totalling LESS THAN 1 OZ. Side note: make the electric fence near your vines have a bigger warning sign. 1 5x6 warning card on only one side of the fence isn't enough... almost touched the fence before I saw ...
Read moreSognefjord Winery is a young establishment (has been open for about 1 1/2 years) that is worth a visit. While still relatively small (there are plans to add a new, larger tasting room), with a small offering of wines, I believe they are poised to make their name known. With Norwegian named wines(i.e.: Inger, and Freya), their short list of offerings are sure to please the most discerning tastes. One of these wines deserves a special note. Petra is a port style wine with honey added. While not a mead, you get a beautiful honey flavor to a lightly fortified grape wine. While I don't usually care for port wines, this one was a very pleasant surprise, so much so that a bottle of Petra came home with me. The staff were very pleasant, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to talk to. You could feel their enthusiasm for the winery was evident.
I am excited to see where Sognefjord goes in the future and will be stopping by periodically...
Read moreWe stopped by on a Sunday for live music. They offer cocktails and beer in addition to wine. Outdoor games for kids kept my niece and nephew busy. Sunshine and shade spots with tables and picnic areas available to visit around. We shared a charcuterie board, which had a nice sampling of meats and cheese. I hear they have pizza flatbread too! The scenery is beautiful which is an added bonus and we watched an afternoon...
