Willmore Lodge has the FREE Bagnal Dam History Museum which is the best museum about the construction of Bagnal Dam and the communities that were flooded by the creation of Lake of the Ozarks. It also has a couple of displays about earlier times such as the Osage indigenous people. There is a rock core sample which shows the many layers of rock exposed in the lake area. The views are picture worthy. Impressive gardens and gazebo (at lake edge on a peninsula). Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is here. Thank You to Ameren power company for supporting this!

I have been going to Lake of the Ozarks my whole life but today I visited Willmore Lodge for the first time. Built in the early 30’s to house administration while Bagnell Dam was being built, it now houses a museum of the period before, during and after construction of the dam. Lots of free parking and no admission charge. Lovely views of the lake and near outdoor park with picnic tables and a scenic outlook. Definitely worth seeing.

Good free activity and way to get out of the heat.. Kids were mildly interested.. Felt like we were invading the space almost, as we came in when they were holding a meeting. . I don't know just felt a bit ackward. I was able to grab some coupons to other local attractions. The view from the deck was incredible along with the cool decor of the lodge.

It was a great small museum ,their was something broken which I didn't include. It was one of their tvs but it didn't hit the experience too hard. (They supposedly fixed it later in the day ). It's a well documented museum about the dam. It has beautiful views and people there are friendly. Definitely suggest coming here.

This is free, and has a lot of information on the area, why the dam was made, the history of making the dam, and such. It was such a great way to start our time in the area. We then went to the overlook, and then public access. It was great to first learn about the history before checking up on the dam itself.

What a great history lesson. The historical lodge is beautiful with breathtaking views of the lake. Everything you wanted to know about how the dam, lake, land and resort developments came to be. The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. A great stop for tourists and natives alike...
