Hamilton Greenbelt in Lakeway is such a peaceful and beautiful place — perfect for a quiet walk with your family or pets. It’s a calm, shaded trail where you can often spot deer walking gracefully through the trees. We’ve also seen squirrels darting around and even hummingbirds flying nearby — it really feels like a little slice of nature right in the city.
Right at the entrance, there’s a clean restroom where you can wash your hands, drink some water, or take a quick break. There’s even a small fountain near the entrance, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
We usually walk about one mile in, then one mile back — just enough for a refreshing walk. The trail actually continues further, but we haven’t explored that part yet. Still, even this short loop is really enjoyable and peaceful.
Overall, it’s a great little hidden gem — simple, quiet, and full of natural beauty. We always leave feeling relaxed...
Read moreWhether you are a Lakeway local, or an Austinite looking to get out of the city, Hamilton Greenbelt will quickly become a favorite hiking spot! The manicured entrance was particularly memorable for me upon my first visit because it just felt so inviting. The trail is level, wide, and a perfect fit for anyone needing an easy to moderate difficulty level. That makes it great for those with small children, people with mobility issues, or anyone looking for a pleasant stroll. You can also link up to much more difficult hiking trails if you are so inclined. Parking is ample and the city buildings nearby offer a even more parking for overflow. The restrooms and water fountains are a great bonus. The city keeps the trail and facilities very clean and functional. There is great bird watching here both along the trail and at the large bird blind located in the greenbelt. I also see it in use by cyclists...

After leaving the main paths, there were many smaller paths that were hard to identify. It was a nice day, so didn't mind being "lost" for a little bit. Luckily, ran into a local resident who gave me general directions, but said the entire park was nice. Finally found the Overlook she recommended at the end of Hurst Hollow. It had a nice sitting area that overlooked the entire greenbelt. Nice, well-maintained park that wasn't crowded and had various...
