Greetings, I'd like to offer my recent experience with a vendor at #trentonfarmersmarket on #sprucestreet in #Ewing / #Trenton. You may or may not be familiar with #PulaskiMeats either way if you are a #POC #personofcolor my opinion is that your #business is unwelcome there. I suffered an embarrassing moment while attempting to #buy a pound of #Havarti #cheese to prepare a dish for an upcoming #family #dinner the #gentlemen at the counter simply repeatedly told me that they did not have anything I asked for even after a young lady corrected him the first time he said they were out of it. He didn't acknowledge her or her comment and continued to hold the line of refusal. Let's be clear each and every business has the right to refuse service at any time for any reason. I feel it's necessary to pass along any information that might spare another person of color unnecessary embarrassment or feeling wronged when you can avoid being subjected to that by choosing another place...
Read moreLove this place. It's both a slice of post-WWII urban/rural NJ (Trenton used to be the major/only city between New Brunswick and North Philadelphia and it was surrounded by farms). Five major farm "families" (yeah, the "5 families"), were the principal partners/owners, but there's room for lots of other merchants.
There's both the best vegan restaurant I've ever visited and a top BBQ place that could survive in Texas. Terhune's Farm Market has a terrific store here, and the Amish fried chicken place has lines all the time. There are several Italian-style deli's and a fantastic bakery. Lots of crafts of various kinds.
Saturday is the BIG day. Also Halo Farms is next door.
Only downgrade is that is the ambience is big open-air garages with 4 wings, and cold/hot seasonally. There are scant grocery/market offerings; it's kind of the "anti-Wawa" which is good/bad. Bathrooms are in a separate building across the...
Read moreI have been coming to this market for over 35 years. For the most part, the vendors are great, cordial, and helpful. That said, this market can't seem to get away from racism. I have been observing and have personally experienced the nasty treatment by the woman at Russo's (the vendor closest to Tea for All and the watch store) towards non-white shoppers. She seems to assume that all non-white shoppers don't speak English and are dumb. She speaks in a condescending tone and raises her voice if you even dare to ask a question. We're here to shop and to ask questions about the produce we spend our $$$ on. I drive 45 minutes to go to the Trenton Farmer's Market for fun, not to be mistreated. No more! There are too many better farmers markets in Central Jersey, where the vendors will treat you with respect, regardless of the color...
