I don’t see how anyone could give this trail a bad review, it’s a wonderful trail! I’ve hiked on trails all over the country and this seriously is a favorite of mine. Very secluded feeling surrounded by nature and has enough small hills to allow you to get a good exercise. I noticed people claiming on here that there are trails clearly marked for “hikers” but please be aware that this trail loop is a shared trail for both hikers and bikers. It’s a loop and to create a safer hike and ride for everyone they ask hikers to hike in one direction and the bikers to bike in the opposite direction which allows you to see each other coming but don’t let the “hiker” and “biker” signs make you think those trails are specifically for them, it’s a shared trail and bikers go in one direction and hikers in another, it’s easy to get that misunderstood. From my experience the bikers are always friendly and respectful towards the hikers and let you know they are coming. There’s no reason bikers & hikers can’t get along. The trail is super long but they have “turn around” spots where you can cut over to the returning trail to come back. There are beautiful scenic views of the river, lots of birds, flowers and deer. The trails are always clean as...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to have lunch and relax, and discovered this spot. Still within earshot of a busy town, but far enough away to feel like it's in nature this is the start if two trailheads that follow the river path. If I had more time I would have taken a longer stroll down the path. There is a fairly steep boat ramp where boats can be launched for paddling down the river. I was there in early winter. All the trees were naked and the sun was playing hide n seek with the clouds. It was a little chilly and very windy. But lots of natural formations to gawk at and photo opportunities left and right. If you are a mountain biker the trail comes highly recommended. Or as a hiker. Each trail is separate so that hikers and bikers won't crash into each other. I think it's a brilliant idea. I spend time on pathways in Topeka and have to scoot aside to allow bikes to pass me. A separate path appeals to me. I can't wait to see the place in the...
Read moreCan't visit this place too often. The main trail is about 8.1 miles. There are several cutoffs so you have a few options to avoid doing the entire loop. There are also a couple additional loops. Do the "Sugar Loop" if you are up for a challenge. They recently added some nice signs that help you navigate the forks. Buddy system and helmet advised especially if you're new to the trail. It starts out fairly simple but near the loop back gets a little more technical. Most riders can handle this trail. Be aware of faster riders and move over for them. Runners go in the opposite direction as riders so watch for them as well. Use your best judgement... If it's too muddy...
