It is so nice to have a separate area for small dogs. Appreciate the parks folks thinking ahead and including a trash bin and poop bags in the middle of the area. There's only one bench in the small pup area and it's at one end (near the entrance). Since the space is long and narrow it would be great to have another seating option that isn't at the end. There is also a low spot in the ground right in front of the only bench so there's a mud puddle in front of the only seating option. The water drinking option is good but was turned off for winter season; probably not a way around that. Even without recent rain, the little pup area was VERY muddy in December. Since this area is downhill from the enormous large dog area, it'll probably never be NOT muddy. Restrooms are quite far from the pup park. The biggest 2 things for Leawood to improve in order to get a 5-star from me would be at least one more bench and better drainage. A bonus would be to increase the space for small pups to include some of the space uphill where the ground is already less wet.

This is a very large park which makes it great to play in. The downside is that it is always a mud pit. Unfortunately, the grass is not lush enough to withstand the constant wear and tear from all the pups. It offers a small dog and a large dog play area. Water bowl, dual trap door and waste bags. The large dog area offers benches for humans to sit and an obstacle course for dogs (and owners to enjoy). Recently the mud pits have attracted bugs and flies making the park visits very unpleasant. Hopefully that sunny weather and a little lawn care will bring this park back to life.

Kind of underwhelming, but a lot of potential. The good: A LOT of real estate to run and play, agility equipment, beautiful scenery, covered seating, hose/dog wash station. The bad: follow the signs and you'll get there, but its not clear that there is a small walk and a bridge to get to the park proper, swampy, agility equipment is in the far back corner so not likely to be used, it's surrounded by trees but none in the park part so there won't be shade in the summer, could really benefit from a walking path for dog and owner around the parameter.

Overall nice park and great location. A paved loop inside of the park was recently added and is very nice, it's great to walk around while my dog is running around playing. The dogs here are great, very friendly, social, and respectful towards other dogs. The owners are great at keeping an eye on their dogs and their activity. Some are so great that they get upset when their dog comes over to me to say 'Hi' or if I greet their dog. Particularly I notice this when I greet the dog first, not the owner. Some owners make attempts to keep their dogs by them, within a small area of the park, and/or away from me. They have made comments that they don't want their dogs by me, they don't want me by their dogs, and they don't want my dog near them or their dog. It makes me wonder why then they come to an off-leash dog park. I feel discrimination against me and my dog, she is a black dog. The park should be open to everyone and everyone should feel welcome there, regardless of the color of their dog. People who use the trail outside of the park are not great at picking up their dog's poop....

tl;dr Nice large open space. Well cared for dog amenities. Too far away from lot. Needs lights and human bathroom.

The park is settled at the back of the larger Leawood city park. In one sense this is nice as it's away from the distractions of different groups enjoying other aspects of the park. But in another way it's inconvenient especially towards end of day. As you have to walk a few minutes out of the park and to your car. Thankfully the parking lot is lit. But it would be nice if the park and the walkway to it were also lit. Yes, park closing hours are "sunset" but that's so challenging in the winter months.

The dog park is separated for large and small dogs. There are plenty of stocked and emptied dog waste receptacles, a couple of benches with a bit of covering and a little doggie gym. There's also a watering station for the dogs. These are all really nice features that we enjoy.

There are no human restrooms however. And the port-a-potties are...
