I ate at Gates BBQ 20 years ago! My favorite BBQ of All time! I wanted to share the experience with my son, so he drove 2.5 hours and we drove 3 hours. We got there and there was no parking places. We left and decided to go back on Monday Lunch. We arrived 1 hour early and sat in the parking lot. 11:00 arrived to go in as they opened at 11:00 and the doors were still locked with a help wanted sign plastered on the window. We waited 3 more minutes and finally went to the door again. People started arriving walking up to the locked doors waiting in 12 degree winter weather. We all needed to use the restroom. My son and his wife were at the door and I was walking towards them. A little lady unlocked the doors and everyone rushed in out of the cold. This is where it went down hill super fast. We were told rudely to get in the line to order, we said we needed to use the restroom and that is why we weren’t in the line and we were heading in that direction. My son and his wife continued walking. I stood to the side out of the door so others could get in line as I was waiting for my husband. The little lady who unlocked the doors came up to me and rudely asked why I was standing there, I told her I was waiting for my husband. She ordered me to stand up against the wall. I did. He came in and I was mad. I told him no BBQ IS WORTH BEING TREATED THIS RUDELY. My son joined us and softly said, these people are rude as we continued to wait for our daughter in law. The longer I thought about how much I was looking forward to eating there and how I traveled so far with that event on my list of good memories to share with my son the more upset I got. I was so disappointed and sad that my long anticipated memory was ruined by rude employees. My daughter in law joined us and I said, I cannot stay in here to eat after being treated so rudely 3 times just walking in the door. So we went back into the cold air and went down the street to Taco Bell. There was one very kind little black man who spoke to us at GatesBBQ who cleaned off tables who I could have just hugged! His sweet disposition was so refreshing and welcoming! He almost made me change my mind, but I couldn’t handle one more rude word without telling them so. If the place was crowded I might have been more understanding but it wasn’t yet. As we left Taco Bell, I noticed a few parking spaces empty. The food I’m sure was delicious. I would sure they will continue to offer great BBQ! If I lived there, I would order it online and have it delivered. I will never ever go there again! So years ago people knew how to treat their customers who would keep them in business! I don’t care how good the food is if customer service is poor then the experience is not good. I hope this experience is only on the 103rd Street location. I hope the other locations know how to give good customers service and make their customers feel welcomed and...
Read moreOkay this is the last time I tried this place in Leawood on 103rd just terrible service you can't have one person saying hi may I help you trying to wait on over 30 people in less than an hour I know this to be true because I ordered food at 5:20 and got it at 6:20 it was ready it was sitting on the counter getting really cold. I got there and no one said a word to me the whole time not even hi may I help you I stood there in front of the counter because I had ordered my food to go I ordered it around 5:30 when it became 5:45 I decided I better get in line and let them know when I finally got up there to the counter what's a person that was Caucasian came in to pick up their order then all of a sudden they were like oh you need to get out of line and will help you. WHAT??? and then the girl that was walking around not speaking to anyone while I was standing up there waiting on my order and finally I got in line because no one was helping me got there at 5:30 they finally spoke to me at the counter after standing in line for an order I placed onlinr around about 6:00 something and they got upset with me because I requested that my food be made again I saw them finally wrapped the food around 6:05 remember I showed up there around 5:30 the guy got my order out right away but the person that was waiting on other people was steadily taking my order and giving it to other people that ordered wings and yes my wings were dry old and flavorless and the sauce was just thick tasted like ketchup mess and yes they just kept refrying the fries over and over and over and over again I like my fries fry a second time but not old fries being freed over and over and over again this is the worst place ever and I had not been there for more than 2 years and I will never go back and the girl was upset that worked there because I told her I wanted my food fresh or I wanted my 25.00 back so she tosses my food back to me and when I still get home my wings are just dry old no sauce no seasoning no flavor Gates and sons I won't be back and if I want wings I'll go to 31st and main please learn
how to make them wings cuz that ain't right
And the final word Gates get into the 21st century meaning a computer with a kiosk where you can place an order because they don't remember those orders in the people in the back don't remember those orders and it just becomes a hot mess and it was all that food and she didn't even take one second to say why am I having so much food sit on this counter and then your staff turns around and starts wrapping it up after it sits out there I'm putting it in the warmer well that's too late the food is already old and cold disgusting and...
Read moreOn Wednesday, March 20, 2024 around five or 5:30 PM I visited the Gates At 2001 W. 103rd Terrace, in Leawood, KS 66206 My dad and my granddaughter, we ordered a large platter which was $180+ tax. I had requested fresh fries because the ones that were there looked cold and old. There were two young ladies working behind the register. The line started getting long. I’m assuming the hostess raising her voice at the young ladies in regards to the line being long. She said to the young lady she could leave if she wanted to there was still (2) people that could work. The Young lady that took our order was doing a good job and myself, and the other customers were not bothered by the wait. She began to Make reference to her dropping fresh fries, saying that she had already wasted three basket of fries. I let the young lady know that I really appreciate her for dropping the fresh fries for us. Once the order was complete, as we were paying for the order, there was a gentleman behind us who said that he would pay for our order. The hostess let us know that this gentleman always does this when he comes in. That was a true blessing and most appreciated. I thanked him and hugged him for blessing us for paying the $184 for our large platter….I Just want to say not to take anything away from the blessing that was passed on to us….. When arriving home and unpacked our dinner, we noticed that we did not have our baked beans which was not a big deal because it was a true blessing someone paid for our meal. Now this is a whole different story. It was the worst looking meat I’ve ever seen serving to a customer in my lifetime from Gates, and I have eaten at gates my whole life and I’m 64. My parents and I have been eating there forever Ham look like it was maybe a few days or a week old the beef was crumbled. It was not slices, just crumbled on the Platter. I wish that I would’ve taken pictures yesterday of the complete platter once it was Unwrapped, but my parents felt it was such a blessing that we should not say anything, but I felt compelled to put a review on this page because I know that Gates does not Serve this type of food to...
