Nov 3
The owner has blocked me from replying to their public comment, so I’m clarifying the facts here. I’m disappointed by this false accusation. We never refused to pay — we simply followed the farm’s confusing instructions and paid for what we picked. I have payment records to prove it.
Our group had about 20 families and bought around 160 lbs of apples. The extra 50 lbs left in the wagon were not unpaid because we refused — you refused to sell them to us after getting upset that the kids brought apples to the counter first.
You didn’t give us bags, saying there were none, and instead packed apples in paper boxes, dropping some without replacing or apologizing. Then you insisted we pay for a tiny green apple that accidentally rolled into our wagon.
I never threw an apple at anyone — I tossed it on the ground out of frustration. The “employee” you mentioned was actually you.
Sadly, instead of handling things calmly, you chose to post misleading and hurtful claims.
Nov 2 The management is very unfriendly and unreasonable. We went as a big group and just wanted to pick more apples. Since we knew it would be heavy to carry everything to the checkout area, we asked for more bags, but they only gave us three. They said we had to fill them up, go back to pay, and then come back to pick more — which made no sense at all.
The owner was especially rude, always trying to find excuses. When they were helping us pack, two large apples fell on the ground, and there wasn’t even a simple “sorry.” Very disappointing experience!

Read moreDuring apple picking season, it feels like the state of New Jersey is suddenly overrun with you-pick orchards. After researching several options with a mind toward reasonable entrance fees and fair prices per unit, Melick's was where we landed. At $5.99 per person for weekend pricing (which includes a free hayride to the furthest points of the orchard) at peak picking season, I felt it was worth the longer drive to get there. I also loved that they issued free plastic picking bags without the added cost, as many orchards are now wont to do.
In late September, there were plenty of apples ripe for the picking, with clear signage to denote which types were ripe. Honeycrisp apples were a little more per pound, but once I tasted a few, it was clear why. True to its name, I've never bit into a more juicier or crunchier apple, and I've been spoiled for supermarket apples for good. Most folks seem to come for the apples, but I saw a fair number of people coming down from the fields with armloads of giant sunflowers. Of course, there's always the store at the front, with other farm-fresh produce, cider (both alcoholic and non), and baked goodies. The alcoholic apple cider was refreshing, with a light buzz that made time in the orchard just a little happier.
No bags or backpacks are allowed in the orchard area, but there's a small picnic area with some tables and porta-potties at the very front. Our family came prepared with picnic blankets, and the folks here were totally fine with us setting up by the goats (who are fenced in, so there's no direct interaction but the children in our group had great fun watching them while we ate).
Melick may not have all the frills and fancy fun of other orchards, but I was delighted by a few perks, like a small tire play area and a decently sized corn maze that was fun to walk through with the family. The parking lot doesn't seem all that large, but when we went, it never seemed to get so busy that it was impossible to...
Read moreNot recommended for the special situation, we came to the farm and paid entrance fee , just enter the farm around 10 mins, huge rain is pouring and not able to continue, we are all wet top to bottom and kid are all wet too. we were running in the pouring rain for 10 mins to try to get back to the store and asking if we can come back tmrw without entrance fee since the rain seems like not gonna stop for a while and it is not a small rain, my kid is all wet and can’t continue today, but the store stuff attitude is like don’t want to talk to me and made like they do not care and no apologies or anything, and looks at me like my request is ridiculous and made like we are short that entrance fee, and I am not sure if this is including racism or not. No activities in this place and we just want to come to pick some fruit and let kid running around, but we came in without do anything paid entrance fee then just pouring rain. And even they offer us to come back tmrw free, we may not even have time to come back. But it is just how they are acting is quite rude and mean. Not recommended this place for sure!!!!
And as the owner responded if it is forecast the rain, every activity is closed why you guys still selling ticket and 10 mins later everything closed . This is...
