The museum is filled with amazing fossils and experiences of finding them. As well as historical artifacts providing understanding about living life on the prairie as well as history of the Native Americans and the impact of the army and cowboys impacting their culture and lives. They have a gift shop with 3-4 bookcases of books relating to everything in the museum with some being local authors and poets. They also have a statue created by Joe Lopez an international metal artist in a can’t miss location upon entering the beginning of the museum after the gift shop. It is FREE to attend it but do suggest either a donation to support it since it is a nonprofit 501 C3 or buy a book or gifts for family like I did! Sign up for their newsletter!

I am really glad we stopped here on vacation. It was a sweet, quiet place to see artifacts that were found in the area of South Dakota. If you love fossils, or history then you must stop in this museum. The sculptures inside and outside are amazing!! I did not complete this review in a timely manner and have forgotten her name, but I will not forget the woman working there. She was very sweet and lovely to talk to. The discussion of "faith" as soon as you walk in really caught my attention too.

you have to check out this museum , lots of information on how the town got started and they made a movie with Leonardo Dicaprio about a man from the town, there is a giant monument in the museum. Lots of old artifacts from people when the town was in it;s early stages

When I give this museum 4 stars I'm not rating it against other museums. I'm saying for being in Lemmon South Dakota, and free to get into it's a nice museum and great place to stop for a stretch of the legs. However the John Lopez "Hugh Glass" sculpture in the museum is 5 stars amazing and worth the stop alone as is his metal dinosaur sculpture outside. John Lopez's studio is just down the block on main street Lemmon too and worth the stop. If you don't know who he is look him up and...
