Went and golfed 9 holes. There was a group of 4 golfers who must’ve been late because they teed off at my time. It was 7/29 at 11:30 am.
My partner and I had to wait for them to finish the hole so we didn’t get started until 11:45-12. The group of 4 didn’t let us golf through as they kept playing their holes and we had to wait so we didn’t drive into them.
A gentleman who worked at the facility approached my partner and I during the middle of our golf round maybe hole 4 or 5 and started acting all crazy, telling us we needed to hurry up and we were holding everyone up, and if we couldn’t speed up and maintain a 15 min pace then we need to get off the course. He was extremely rude and condescending and said a group of 2 older men behind us had reported us several times for taking too long. It was extremely uncalled for and unprofessional. At the time we were on pace for 12 minutes a hole, so we were already playing fast and the group of 2 behind us never waited for us, so he needed to get his facts straight before acting how he did. I’m not sure if it was racially motivated because my golf partner was black but the guy was being extremely rude when speaking to him.
We ended up finishing the round of golf at 1:30, around a 10 minute pace, exceedingly quicker than suggested 15.
I forget the gentleman’s name but he was the one washing the carts off that day. He was extremely unprofessional and it just screamed inexperience and lack of respect...
Read moreI would give Henry Horton Golf Courses 5 stars no problem except for two things. I have played once a week for the past 4 weeks. The fairways and greens are in great shape. The tees are good, although a number of them are quite narrow (less than 10 ft. wide). The only problem with the course is that each time I played, the greens were pretty heavily sanded. I was told today by my playing partner (and confirmed by the man in the pro shop) that they sand the greens virtually every week. I don't understand why this is necessary as most courses only sand their greens when they are aerated (usually twice a year). The greens are in great shape, but the sand made them very difficult to putt. I see no reason why the greenskeeper feels a need to sand the greens so often. The only other complaint I have is the fact that when I called to reserve a tee time for myself, I was told that they don't reserve times for singles, but just come down, and the starter will 'fit me in'. I drove the 40 mins. to the course, and when I got there, the man in the pro shop told me that he was fully booked, and he couldn't guarantee that I would be able to play. I did manage to play, but either allow a single to make a reservation, or warn them on the phone that there is no guarantee that they can play. I love the course, but a couple of things need...
Read moreGreat, friendly and accommodating staff! The fastest and well maintained greens around! Just because you get on the green doesn’t mean you’ll get down in two. I started back playing, after a 12 year layoff, and decided to go back and play Henry Horton. I used to play there when I first started playing golf back in the 90’s. I was surprised at how much the course had improved. I ended up buying a TN state park golf pass there. I was looking at memberships at other courses, but the course condition and the staff made my mind up. Since then I’ve been bring friends and family there to play. They all love it, too. I’m not a good golfer, and there are some really tough holes there, but I love playing there. It’s a bit of a drive to get there but...
