This is a hard, long review as there were points, some excellent, some good and some definately needs improvement. Summary: bads: mostly staffing. check-in, wait time at restaurant, lack ot trash recepticles, free breakfast Goods: location, view, cleanliness, comfort Details. First I will state, "we" is over 20 people, mostly between the ages of 40 to 75 with one 82 yo, a 7 yo and a 2 yo, who met here for a family reunion. Some of us stayed in the Lodge, others in 3 of the cabins. The conference room was great. We had it for the entire day. The tables were the narrow ones you could use individually or put two together. We brought our own tablecloths which was good thing as they were needed. Tables stained. I found the beds very comfortable. They were soft, maybe pillow top? The pillows were particularly nice, 3 soft and fluffy, one full and extra firm. Everyone reported a good night's sleep. I loved many features of the room, especially the balcony with it's comfortable chairs. My room was second floor back side and the view was mostly the parking lot and another set of rooms but you could see a bit of the garden, trees and fresh air. Note, we had a bird's eye view of the parking lot which will be mentioned later. I also loved the clever way they offered shampoo, conditioner and lotion. I forgot to take a photo for this review. Guess it will be a pleasant surprise if you visit. The food in the restaurant was good. The prices moderate. The wait time, long the first night terrible the second. As I mentioned, we were a fair sized group. I do not know if reservations can't be made or if we just failed to do so. The second night is my complaint. Please look for my...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with our stay at Henry Horton State Park. We originally requested 3 cabins. One cabin wasn't ready the day we arrived so they put us up in the lodge; more like an old college dorm. Our cabin, when we were allowed in was, although it had been drenched in bleach filth (I don't even want to know why)... Broken window frames, most unable to secure closed, and hardly any trees around, it felt more like a YMCA camp. We also didn't enjoy the many people playing frisbee golf and walking around very near to our cabin. The last straw was they wanted to charge us 6.00 per person per day to utilize the parks pool, while not charging people entering the park just to use the pool, a little backwards if you ask me. The location of the park was also an issue as we had to travel a minimum of 45 minutes to go anywhere. Nick, a maintenance person at the park was the only refreshing experience we had at the park; thank you Nick. Needless to say we will not...
Read more2.5 stars… it’s an overpriced place to sleep and shower that’s like walking straight into 1970…due to the circumstances I pretty much had to stay here but next time I will make the drive to somewhere else… I travel for a living and I’ve stayed in Motel 6s and Budget Inns nicer than this…People were very nice and I liked having a balcony but that’s about it, the rooms are extremely outdated, hot water was almost nonexistent, the water pressure is terrible, shower head sprays everything but you, beds are not comfortable at all and sheets had hair and fuzz all over them, the TV in my 18 wheeler is bigger than what is in the room, none of the lamps worked other than the giant fluorescent light over the bed, AC unit is extremely noisy, refrigerator didn’t work at all…. And I could keep going…. I’ve never wanted to ask for a discount or a refund so bad in my life but I’m just not that way…. $175 is a ripoff… $40-50 is more like it…...
