Well, after waiting and waiting with excitement for the new restaurant to open, my wife and I drove over (yes we're locals) to have our first meal on a Friday evening, like we have done every Friday for the past 25 years. We were greeted by a very nice older woman that seated us, you could still smell the freshness of the paint. Looking around we were surprised that there were only 6 other patrons at 2 other tables. Well, within about 5 mins of waiting to give at least our drink order and seeing that there were 5 waitresses on duty, my wife and I felt like we were being ignored, especially when there was only 6 other patrons . There were at least 2 waitresses that looked at us from the bar area and I tried to get someones attention, still nothing. Now after 15 full mins of waiting I was ready to go. Now my wife is the most positive person on the planet and when SHE says she's not happy and and is ready to go, we go. Total time in the building (yes we kept track) was almost 20 mins with not even a single person approaching our table. We got up and walked to the door where there were 3 waitresses and the nice older lady standing there chatting and looking at there phones. Now my wife being my wife and knowing how I handle these things told me not to make any comments while leaving. Wasn't going to happen. I let all 4 of them know that they needed to work on there customer service skills and we left. Now I know from being a manager myself that good employees come from good management and there is obviously some management issues to not train your people in customer service and allowing the use of cell phones while on the clock. We...
Read moreWe've heard people talk about the restaurant at Henry Horton and how it's a favorite on Sunday afternoons after church services. So we thought we'd try it.
The service was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. And, when some of my food was cold, they immediately and without complain corrected it.
The facilities are new and clean, but have a very sterile environment. Almost like what you would expect in a hospital's cafeteria area.
The food was very lacking. It wasn't bad, but it was similar to the food you would find in a middle-school cafeteria. And certainly not a good value for the price we paid.
The Shrimp-and-grits ($16) was a small portion. The cheese grits tasted like canned cheese, or maybe the cheese from mac-n-cheese. With a few shrimp spread out on top. The shrimp were heated, but were not seasoned at all.
We also got the Southern Burger ($14). The burger tasted like a frozen burger patty, with no seasoning or salt on it. The green tomatoes were so thinly sliced, they didn't really add any flavor. And the pimento cheese and the "comeback sauce" were so sparse and flavorless that you really couldn't tell they were there. The fries were cold, and tasted like they had been fried, cooled, and re-fried. Or perhaps the grease was very old. These cold fries were quickly replaced with piping hot fries, but again, the grease was old and there was no seasoning to mention.
All-in-all, the food was a solid 2. The service was a 4-star. And the value was a 1-star. I can say, with complete confidence, that we...
Read moreIf I could put no stars I would. Family of 8 went Sat 11/3/23 for a birthday dinner. We live 5 minutes away and we always support local food and shops. So let's start with the service she couldn't remember the order after writing it down. The drinks are full of ice all the way to the top so basically you got mouth full soda. So when the food arrived the portions are for a kids meal. The chicken butter plate had pink chicken, hard crunchy rice, and 4-5 small potatoes with no butter or any other topping. We ordered 4 of them and no one could eat it. 2nd grilled shrimp and cheese grits. The shrimp was ice cold and not grilled and the grits tasted like dirt. 3rd. A cheese burger that was completely raw on the inside he ordered well done. Now the best one yet. I ordered the pesto tortellini. 6 small noodles cold I might add . The pesto tasted like straight up mayonnaise. So we told the maybe 20 yr old manager how bad the food was and that no one could eat it. She okay I'll comp the meal. We asked for the check so we could leave and she took 1 meal off and still charged us $120 dollars for food we didn't eat. We will never go back...
