Worst experience ever. Place looks lovely and well kept, however the staff ruined my whole experience. I come from a different state to visit my family and unknowingly went out to shop next to the lake not knowing I would have to pay back upon entry; which would have been fine, however I spent my last dimes at that shop and tried to explain how although the payment ticket does state the rules, I wasn’t the driver upon entry and couldn’t afford coming back in. All the staff members, especially the male figure were extremely rude also I quote saying “ she broke as hell “ also saying “ so you got to go too the store and not pay here? So how you fill up your gas “. Not knowing I managed my bucks enough to make ends meet to even make a small trip to this lake before my next pay day soon. I asked all for their names, after accepting to give them to me, they said no with the lie of him saying “he felt threatened” (which cameras will show how flustered he was, raising his voice to me, while I spoke in a calm demeanor) he asked me to take a picture of him multiple times instead of giving me his name, so I did, which his oldest female coworker later said wasn’t allowed???? Lake is great! But please get staff with good work ethic. Ridiculous, not necessary. A family member lended me to re-enter (even after that he continued to be rude continuously saying he was going to kick me out and no I never spoke to him in any vulgar or...

This swimming area is absolutely disgusting. I don’t know what these great reviews are talking about saying it’s clean?? The lake itself is very pretty and I’m sure if you go out on a boat or find a different point of access it’s not so bad but this park is terrible. You would think it would be well kept based on how much they police the rules here, they make sure you have no pets when you enter (so don’t even think about trying to bring your dog) and there is security driving around enforcing park rules. However this is not the case. The bathrooms are horrendous, the toilets don’t flush and the stall doors don’t lock and who knows what diseases are on the floor. The water is Brown and there are weeds floating everywhere. I should not have gotten in the water at all and regret doing so. My skin had a weird smell to it after swimming in there. I went with a group of people and the majority of us woke up the sick the next day, me and my sister in law both had ear pain and our hearing was changed right after swimming and I didn’t even get my head/face in the water. Overall not a good experience and will...

I'm not from around here so our family decided to go try this park for some fun family time... We've been twice now. The first time was ok, other than some extremely rude security guard on a power trip and some teenagers screaming and singing curse words. So we thought ok, maybe it was an off day, we'll give it another chance. We weren't too impressed that the second visit, was so much worse than the first. There was broken glass in the water, which sliced my daughter's toe open. There was COMPLETE CHAOS all around us from kids throwing rocks at EVERYONE & their parents not saying anything to them, just watching like it was nothing & security not saying anything either, to a russian woman screaming at someone saying that they needed to wait for her in the parking lot and they would have to call the police! There were grown women pushing people to the side in the restroom and grown men yelling & cussing each other. It's sad because the park is such a beautiful setting, but its DEFINITELY not somewhere we will take our kids again & I wouldn't even go, even as an adult. We were extremely...

It's a great place to take your children to cool down, although you better go early. It gets crowded quickly and parking can be an issue. I would have given it a higher rating had their security not been high school children. There's also the issue of irresponsible parents not watching their very small (she was about 3 yrs. old) children and a complete stranger rescues them from drowning. Granted it's not the fault of Lake Murray seeing as how signs are clearly posted that there are NO lifeguards. But, it can be stressful for those of us whom are responsible adults and realize that the mother wasn't even aware nor did she respond as though she was concerned that it happened. So please, if you go, help watch over the little ones. There are too many parents whom should not have ever given birth.

So finally checked out this park/ beach area. I have to say they have really worked hard on making it a nice family friendly park. The beach area is quite expansive. Plenty of picnic tables in the shade with many under pavillions. There are grills in some areas. First cone first serve. Plenty of parking. On weekends opens at 10 & cars start lining up about 9. $5 fee cash only or $50 annual pass. There are restrooms. It appears they rake sand beach area nightly. Plenty of garbage cans which of course in hot summer brings the flies & bees. No alcohol or pets allowed. Closes @ 8pm. Note it is a rocky (small rocks & shells) entrance into the water so swim shoes are a good idea. It is a good alternative to a long drive to cool off on a hit summer day.
