Located right off the 101 you must be 25 feet or smaller to park (there is no turn-around).

Right around half a mile loop for the nature trail and 3 mile loop if you are in the water (canoe /kayak) and it is definitely worth the stop. Even if it’s raining there’s plenty of tree cover throughout the trail. There’s a small section where you can fish and bird watch as well. One porta potty at the entrance and a trash can. Lots of signage throughout the quick loop educating on wildlife and landscaping. It’s a...

When you're looking for a relatively flat, loop of a hike, Alder Island is one of the best in North Lincoln County. There is a sloped kayak launch site that allows explorers access (when tide is in your favor) multiple small waterways that connect to Siletz River. Millport Slough is the name for that area. When you're hiking around you'll notice handdrawn information placards by local artist Nora Sherwood describing the native flaura and fauna of Alder Island. For some reason, this place keeps appearing in my places to review. I literally stopped here to take a photo and drive away. From what I saw....this place looks like somewhere I want to come back too. The bat and water inlets are beautiful, and the bird watching is probably epic. I'll come back to explore more next time...

Delightful, well maintained trail. The entrance to the refuge is a bit precarious. Signal well before you turn off highway 101 to the refuge. There is a fantastic wetlands here. In addition to the trail there are nature giideposts and water access to the Siletz River for canoes and kyakers.

Nice easy quick walk hike. Flat surface paved stretch, loop packed rock and grassy surface. Road noise on pavement that runs parallel with Hwy 101 ,loop further away so the tree leaves rustling drown out the noise on scenic nature loop section.
