Lovely location in the countryside East of Livermore. Great views and nice building. This location has the Napa model for tasting i.e. shown to a table with an assigned employee and a minimum $25 tasting fee for four wines. Low key however, with no pushy sales pitch such as we have recently experienced in Napa and Sonoma. Wines are mostly reds although there are chardonnay and sauvignon blanc offerings for those who want them. We tasted a nice Malbec but Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant red for this winery and we were impressed with everything we tasted. We were familiar with McGrail wines through friends and were not disappointed. We did join the wine club and there were two departures from what we usually see in our nearby Lodi wineries. First, 3 bottles have to be purchased immediately to join the wine club and that is hard to do here for under $200. Second, only one tasting is forgiven when signing up for what will approach a minimum $1000 a year commitment. A pleasant experience and we look forward to...

My friend has a membership here, so to celebrate our birthdays, we went to a tasting event at McGrail.

The wines we tasted were from a special list (I want to say it was their reserves, but I don't know if that's the right term). Anywho, all the wines were delicious and I can understand why some of the bottles are around $50. They were excellent.

I've been here a couple of times before, and I've always found the people who work here to be very welcoming and enthusiastic about their wine. I remember going to an evening event where they had little fire pits for s'mores.

Also, it's a very nice place to hold an event. The location overlooks Livermore Valley, and it's also quiet.
