Marketplace — Attraction in Long Beach

Nice, safe and clean. Lots of parking, not overcrowded. I am giving 4 out of five stars because there is a good number of businesses that have closed down and have been abandoned. Walking around the market place these empty buildings make the market place, in certain areas, look like a ghost town. The whole area surrounding the stores needs a makeup. The place does not look ,aesthetically speaking, appealing from the street. The market place billboard that displays the store names is very plain. At night time it can't hardly be seen from PCH. It needs a much nicer billboard with bright lights so it can be more visible at night time. Parking lot lights are not that bright. This place will look so much better and alive with a nice landscape. This place is fine the way it is with local people that are familiar with the area, but it does not have an appealing look at all from the street for people that drive by that are not familiar...

As many have noted, the Marketplace Long Beach is a pleasant area to shop and eat. I found it a little confusing to find the restaurant we were looking for and the location of the individual stores is at best, haphazard. We were trying to find a restaurant that supposedly was between a Commerce Bank and a Trader Joe's (okay, certain types of trading can occur at both places and the trading always involves money but that's stretching it a bit too far). It's also difficult to know the exact perimeters of the Marketplace because across one street is Whole Foods and Urban Plates. I guess it's a good thing not to be limited by strict borders - because it does seem like you could find most anything you wanted somewhere in the Marketplace. Mall has been here for decades, as have some of the shops. However this mall has never been popular and always had vacant shops. Post Covid half of the anchor restaurants are now closed as are many of the shops. It’s got some nice creaks, lakes and vegetation. Could use some major cash investment but there aren’t enough shops to bring in the rent. They do have plenty of good stores and shops if you know what your looking for. Not a place to go to just wander around with all the empty stores. They do have a BevMo, Trader Joe’s and many other name brand places.
