Nice park they updated its playground some years ago to include one area with devices to work out located at the last entry drive way , once you pull in it is directly in front of you a little over to the right behind it you should be able to see the pool and they have tennis court basketball court and paths to bike ride and or run . They also have a mile walk path in the very back of this park so if you pull in to last drive way and just head straight eventually you will see a small school it is the headstart school and you will see past that a small garden . To the right of that is an entry or exit opening that starts the mile walking path . It goes by sylmar park I think it’s called ( park with the baseball fields going up Maclay St. past Foothill Ave) you can get there through this path and along the golf course . This path ends eventually on Eldridge St where mission college has a second building and Sherrif department is located . You can park there too if you just go for the run or walk. Area is for the most part shaded and there is a small creek there kids love to explore . There is a water park sorta thing in center of park they use to open in summer not sure if it’s still a thing have not entered there in two or three summers. If you want to have a reunion in one of the little huts you must go online and pay to rent and reserve it out they have numbers on the side so know which one you rent before doing so as some are close to parking lot others are more into the park if you have a lot to carry and do so early so you have first choice . Place is pretty clean and nice. Personally I just hate the heat and the itchy grass and the mosquito bites and all that outdoor experience but it is a very shady park as far as big trees and lots of places to sit in the shade . Very large park as well . About 4-5 total activity areas for kids and about 7 maybe of the covered picnic areas maybe two don’t have a roof ( guesstimate) based on past visits. I grew up here so this park I know a lot about . They also do open the pool any child I believe above 7-8 can enter or swim alone without an adult present anyone under needs an adult and it’s two children per adult if they must be supervised at all times means you get in the water with them not watch from out on the side . But i will be honest the way this generation is going I would never drop off my kid to swim alone at a pool with any adult idc who it is it’s not expensive to go to a public pool it could be anyone in there and the locker area could be a place a predator can just wait around for a lone child to enter. I say this because as time has passed in the past 10 years alone the neighborhood has gotten a lot more unsafe when it comes to cars being broken into mailboxes vandalized and also nail stolen . More and more people facing homelessness and increase of ppl in desperate need of resources out in the public street. Making it impossible to point out a predator from my experience. Best of luck just watch the kids, they are too innocent and naive to be able to understand what malice and corruption is out in this...
Read moreIt's a 5 star facility with a bullet, fantastic park but with a couple caveats. Sylmar in the Valley so I have certain expectations. As a park and rec area it is outstanding. As many as 10 tennis courts, two very nice basketball courts, an olympic size swimming pool. Multiple bathroom buildings, benches, picnic tables e everywhere. Wonderful green space, old, huge Eucalyptus trees, community center and on and on. There's decent parking among multiple lots as well as street parking just outside the grounds. Baseball fields, high school football field, soccer and so on. There was a tent/vendor fair the day I was there (Saturday). I was thoroughly impressed with what this park had to offer. Then why take a star off. Well, it's The Valley so the parks/rex maintenance/cleanup has some gaps. There was some trash scattered among the grass/grounds, a homeless person or two as well. One of them cussed at me for no reason other than I walked within 20 feet of him. Sorry El Cariso but if I feel threatened you cannot have 5 stars. I may go back, it's a pretty short drive from the SCV. I may take...
Read moreBest walking park in the area. I say this knowing there is another fantastic park very close but that one is better for hiking. Paths that go through the park. Bathroom near soccer/football field or by indoor gym are the cleanest. Lots of pavilions and toys for kids. One playset is made for kids with disabilities. Also one of the best pools. My daughter swam there five years. Great free teams. Classes for all ages and really cheap, but good. Also they have great nighttime summer programs. Highly recommend. Lots of amenities. Baseball, soccer, football fields, tennis courts, indoor/outdoor basketball courts, horse shoe, pool, recreation center and right next to cheap golf course. Lots of walking skate boarding bike riding paths. Very busy on holidays and weekends...
