One of the few times I've been lost not lost; the map said it was the continuation of Lathrop St. but it was just a trail through the scrub, challenging enough without a cane. The views are spectacular, the San Gabriel Valley on one side, the LA Basin on the other. But it was getting late and my internal alarm went off, saying that I'd better explore myself out of the depths before it got much darker; i found a path down but you either run crazily or walk carefully, down, which i did. Eventually found myself on Pullman St., to a chorus of pit bulls barkingbut i had crossed the park! At Dusk!

Not going to say how to get here, but if you do come plz dont throw your trash here it is not a dump site. Also you'll be needing AWD or 4x4 to get around. You can make here with really good tires if you dont have any of that but it's pretty slippery so have someone sit on the hood for traction. If you are walking your dog be careful lots of broken glass around. Plz be respectful of the community, and DO NOT DRIVE DRUNK.

It is a wonderful Place to view a sunset. You may need a 4 x 4 depending on what type of vehicle you have. Unfortunately, too many non locals go there and leave their trash in place so it's not very friendly in that regard. Others, again not from the area, lite fires and don't even put them out once they burn down to embers. It is, however, a wonderful place for amateur radio operations.

Elephant Hill is owned by a variety of public agencies and private property owners. One of the property owners is the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA). The MRCA is a park agency preserving and protecting open space parkland. Off road driving is prohibited on park owned or managed property. Park Rangers have been providing warnings regarding off road activity. Citations will be starting on September 15th for violating the MRCA Park Ordinance on park property.

Elephant Hill, is in fact, surrounded by adjacent hills filled with concerned neighbors who can observe both daytime and nighttime off road activity.

Please understand that off road driving must end on park property. There are many lawful locations for off road driving elsewhere in Southern...

I'm rating Elephant Hill highly in order to bring visibility to this abused place that could, one day, be beautiful.

From the top of Elephant Hill, you can experience a panoramic view of the San Gabriel Mountains and views of Catalina Island and Palos Verdes on clear days. Unfortunately, you are standing in giant piles of trash while taking in these views.

Shady contractors and generally trashy people illegally dump trash and litter all over this open space.

We at Heroes of Elephant Hill are working with our local community to clean up this trash and encourage the city and state government to prevent dumping in the future. We've made lots of progress so far, but there's still plenty...
