LOS ENCINOS STATE HISTORIC PARK is a lovely pocket park (about half a city block square); a waterhole that has supported life in San Fernando Valley for ages. There's a grove of mature trees. a field of grass, and a pond usually populated by visiting birds.
Several of the buildings from the 1850's have been restored. Over the years, just outside the borders of the park, when multi-story buildings are constructed in this upscale, busy neighborhood, archaeologist exam the ground and have found animal bones and pottery from eons ago.
The no-charge museum, on the property, contains relics from more recent history. There are also horse stalls, a blacksmith shop and a storage building.
The pond is used by sea birds, as well as, ducks, geese and swans. Dispensers offer bird food. You are asked not to bring bread as this makes the birds ill. There is a surprising calmness under the trees of this lovely Park. Traffic on busy Ventura boulevard, just fades away,
STUFF: The restaurant located on the Southeast corner of the property has closed. Wheelchair accessible except for the second floor of the museum. Paid and street parking...
Read moreVery nice park no homeless at all. The geese are not aggressive like Kevin review is stating. Just keep your distance and respect them, they will only be “aggressive” if you don’t respect their space as in going up to them or trying to pet them (should be pretty obvious to people with common sense) other than that they are very friendly in their own way, they will eat food out of your hand just have to put your hand out near them while the food is in your palm and they will approach themselves, They do not like hands being put to their face and will hiss if you do I can understand that cause some of them flinch while eating from my hand like if they’ve gotten smacked/hit in the face before. BTW DONT BE LIKE THE IGNORANT OLD MAN THAT ALWAYS GOES THERE AND FEEDS THEM BREAD OVER THE FENCE. BREAD IS VERY BAD FOR THEM THE GEESE LOVE FROZEN PEAS OR ROOM...

There are very many interesting artifacts along the self-guided tour. The admission is free and there is a donation box. Also on the grounds is a stable and a food storage. It's very interesting to see how people lived in the 1800s in Encino. This is a little hidden gem of a park &...
