We went to the National Ranching Heritage Center at the Museum. This place is great. We took my 78-year old mother who was using a walker, along with several friends and family members yesterday. I did not know what to expect but it definitely didn't include the wealth of outside building exhibits they have. They are incredible. With buildings that span from the late 1700s to the early 1900s, the self-guided tour walks you through the history of how people lived in West Texas. One building is a replica; the rest have been transported to the Museum. Rooms have been outfitted with original furniture and decor and you can peek in to almost every building. In addition to homes, a schoolhouse, a church, and other buildings, there are several corrals, barns, and ranch outbuildings. I'm disappointed to say those are the only ones we didn't get to as it got too warm and my mother was too tired. Indoors there was a beef breeds exhibit, as well as an exhibit on guns, and a charming little video presentation with cowboy stories. The gift shop was cute and not terribly overpriced. The staff was wonderful and we enjoyed a long friendly chat with the gentleman at the entrance counter on our way out. All exhibits were handicap accessible with the exception of several bronze sculptures which are located on a grassy patch along the front drive. We were able to borrow a wheelchair for Mom. Bathrooms were clean. This is a wonderful way to spend a relaxing few hours. I would go in cooler weather or as soon as they open as so much of it is outside. Definitely will go again sometime to see the rest of it. I hear that have a fun Halloween event and gorgeous...
Read moreThis museum is a must see!!! It is well planned out and very authentic. The landscaping is correct for each building. Well thought out and takes at least 2 hours to walk thru the entire display. They HSBC proud dressed people in the schoolhouse with a teacher and students showing how school was conducted in that schoolhouse. They have a blacksmith actually making things and he will tell you what he is doing and the methods used. This really takes one back into another time period to see how people lived back in the early days of ranching heritage. Make sure you take water with you if touring in the summer. Very hot out there. They do sell water along the way for $1/ bottle. Ask if the paths are concrete, so it is handicap friendly, and very...
Read moreI love this place💕 I have taken my granddaughter here many many times because this is one of her favorite places to go. She amazes me with that innocent childish enthusiasm as if she's seeing it for the 1st time every visit. They have added a few new things such as the tornado/hurricane emulator which is pretty cool ( I believe it's $3 but at least 4 kids or 2 adults can fit inside at once). If your looking for something to do and don't have or want to spend a ton of money this is a great place to visit. DEFINITELY WORTH TAKING THE KIDS OR FAMILY (especially visiting family) ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE TIME AND IT'S FREE PEOPLE. WARNING my photos may contain images of...
