It's an easy and super short out & back trail that anyone can complete.
Best for: People who are starting a fitness journey, are injured and still want to go on trails, or families who want to enjoy a view with kids without exerting much effort. Not great for: Those who want to enjoy hiking the trail as much as they do the view.
The view from the overlook is very good and gives you a 250+ degree view of the Shenandoah National Park.
When we went there it was raining, and the overlook was so windy that it tore my poncho and I was at risk of hypothermia. Wear a rain jacket that doesn't tear easily (something better than the cheapest ponchos or frog toggs) if it is raining.

Read moreThe TH is located near a large parking lot adjacent to Skyland off of Skyline Drive @ milepost 41.7 We chose to do Stony Man Loop, though many will take the more direct 1.6 mi fairly easy gradually climb to the park's 2nd highest peak. The loop which is 3 mi combines three different trails, circling the base of Stony Man, then climbing Little Stoney Man to gain an awesome view of the valley from its cliffs, before the final ascent on Stony Man Tr. to an even higher perch.
