A wonderful hike and a great way to spend a day. Still some snow and ice in June, but not much. There is a good bit of steep grades on this hike, take your time. The lower lake does have a lot of mosquitos so go prepared. The trail is also easy to lose on the way to the lower lake, be careful. The upper lake (if you take the left at the split, following the john muir trail higher up. Its not marked as the upper lake trail, so its easy to miss) is smaller, has fewer mosquitos, and fewer people....
Read moreThis was my favorite hike during my entire stay at Yosemite. The first mile up is pretty hard, but once you push through, you’re hit with beautiful mountains, snow, and nature.
I really like the upper lake. It had a meditative, serene, and tranquil energy to it. We were the only people there so it felt really special and secluded.
It took me about 6 hours to complete. The trail was a little icy at this time of year (October), so be careful.
Bring plenty of snacks, water, and hiking boots.
