Amazing! Nothing short of a great time! It's a 1 hour round trip from Mandan North Dakota to Fort Lincoln State Park. There are two stops in the park. One will get you close to the museum (museum has bathrooms), and the On-A-Slant Village where there are Earth lodges. Below at that stop you can visit the campground which has a playground and bathrooms and you can go right down to where the Heart River meets the Missouri River. The museum also has ice cream and some gift shop items! The second stop will get you near the Custer house (5 to 10 minute walk depending on your pace, there are sidewalks in that area). You can roam the park for free, but also you can buy tickets at the commissary building near the Custer house to get guided tours of the Custer house and the On-A-Slant Village. I think you can also get tickets at the museum. Trolley tickets were $12 per person ages 5 and up. I believe there was a group rate of $9 a ticket if you have 15 or more people. While on the trolley we seen white tail deer, hawks, a big ol Turkey, owls, rabbits, pheasants, and turkey vultures. Large fish while going over the north bridge (carp I believe), and much more. There are souvenirs for sale at the trolley station! They gave lots of cool information regarding the trolley cars and the rail it rides on! A definite must stop if in the area, or passing through! Open 7 days a week till labor day, then only weekends. Trolley departure from the depot is at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. Last stop for pick up time in the park to head back to Mandan is 4:30pm.

I've wanted to ride the trolley for years, and I finally did, it was really enjoyable! It takes you out to Fort Lincoln and the mandan earth lodges, and museum, if you ride in the hot part of summer I would bring a bottle of water with you, I did and was glad I did. You can purchase snacks and drinks at the Fort Commissary when you get out there.

We parked there to enjoy the beautiful day for a few minutes, soft breeze and wonderful scenery. Our service animal was enjoying the shade, grass and being outdoor. (Tethered of course to our pickup) then this older lady, long straight grey hair, thin figure comes up to us and states "you people can't park here, trolly parking only" she didn't bother asking if we were there FOR the trolly. Perhaps we were. Regardless does anyone consider what they are going to say before they say it? I'm not so sure I want to come to the trolly now, not when "you people"...
